CLX 4100 Series Quick Start Guide Doc #: 770-0009-02, Rev03 Page 1 CLX 4100 Series Quick Start Guide 2 Online Documents As part of Clustrix’s green initiatives, we are moving to e-documents to reduce waste and redundancy. The product documentation is available online or can be downloaded. Clustrix is committed to a future where environmental values are key to the way we do business. We will continue to find solutions to reduce our company impacts and help build safer and greener communities. The following product documents are available on the Cluistrix Support website (URL: http://docs.clustrix.com/display/CLXDOC/Appliance+Documentation); CLX 4100 Series Quick Start Guide CLX 4100 Series Hardware Installation Guide CLX 4100 Series Regulatory Compliance and Safety Information CLX 4100 Series System Administration Guide Clustrix End Users License Agreement Please familiarize yourself with the documents before installing the product. Installing the Hardware 1. Install the InfiniBand Switch in a centrally located position in the rack. Mount the IB Switch with the connectors facing the rear of the servers. Install the Servers within cable length of the InfiniBand Switch. 2. Mount the Clustrix CLX 4100™ Series Server in the provided Slide Rail Rack Mount kit. For rack mount instructions, refer to the CLX 4100™ Series Hardware Installation Guide. 3. Connect the InfiniBand switch to AC Power. Note: the installation will fail if the InfiniBand switch is not powered on before applying power to the nodes. 4. Connect an InfiniBand cable from the InfiniBand port 1 on each node to the InfiniBand switch. Ensure that the minimum bend radius of the cable is not violated. If you have two IB switches, each of the two IB ports on a node must connect to different switches. Otherwise cluster verification testing, will fail. Similarly, if you have one IB switch, only one of the node's IB ports should be connected to the switch. 5. Connect each node to AC Power (both PSUs). Note: the servers will automatically power up once AC is connected to the node. If AC is not applied to both PSUs, an audible alarm will sound. 6. After the server powers up, wait 15 minutes. It is running an On-site Verification Test, Full Diagnostics, and initializing the server. During this process, the Node Status LED will toggle between green and amber. Do not power the system off or try to configure the system during this process. Doc #: 770-0009-02, Rev03 CLX 4100 Series Quick Start Guide 3 7. On the laptop that you connected to one node's Ethernet before powering up, launch a Web browser, enable JavaScript if necessary, and browse to http://1.2.3.4/ to verify that the OVT test script is running and to obtain OVT test results. After the OVT test, each successfully-verified node will come up in an available state. If this process has completed and an error is detected, the node status will blink, toggling between amber and red. If the system is in this state, contact Clustrix support at [email protected]. If this process has completed with no issues, the node status LED will turn off, indicating that the process has completed. When the OVT test succeeds, then the Administration UI will start and the login screen will appear on the laptop. 8. Attach a laptop to Ethernet port 1 on any node. Configuring the Server Prerequisites Static IP address for each node in the cluster (e.g. 3 nodes = 3 IP addresses) One static IP for the cluster VIP in the same subnet Gateway, Netmask, and DNS information SMTP smarthost info to allow Clustrix to send cluster alert emails NTP (network time protocol) server address Configuring a Clustrix Cluster 1. On the laptop that you connected to one node's Ethernet port before powering up, launch a Web browser, enable JavaScript if necessary, and browse to http://1.2.3.4/. The login screen appears. 2. Login with administrative credentials. The default administrative credentials are: Username: clustrix Password: clustrix 3. When the Dashboard appears, click cluster under the Configure section on the left side of the Dashboard. The Configure Cluster screen appears: Doc #: 770-0009-02, Rev03 4 CLX 4100 Series Quick Start Guide 4. Click Add adjacent to the node you wish to add to the cluster. The system displays a dialog indicating that the cluster reports is in a degraded state while reforming with the new node. This condition is normal and not cause for concern. Newly-added nodes take approximately one minute to fully initialize and begin rebalancing. Repeat this step for all available nodes. 5. Setup networking by clicking network under the Configure section on the left side of the Dashboard. The Configure Network screen appears: 6. Configure network settings as described below and then click Save settings: Cluster Name: Specify a prefix to be used for assigning names to the nodes in this cluster. Nodes are named using the text you enter in this field followed by an incrementing, three-digit number. (Example: if you enter "casba", nodes are named "casba001," "casba002," and so on.) VIP (Optional): Specify a virtual IP (VIP) address, which enables applications to send SQL requests to a single IP address. Clustrix automatically load-balances the queries across the cluster. Cluster gateway: Enter the gateway address, if applicable. Cluster netmask: Enter the netmask. NTP Servers: Click add and then specify the time server to be used to synchronize nodes. Contact your network administrator for the required NTP server information. DNS Servers: Click add and then specify your DNS server. If more than one, click add again. DNS Search Path: Click add and then specify your DNS search paths. Node Settings: Configure the addressing options for each node. Choose DHCP or static. For DHCP addressing, specify normal DHCP server settings. For static addressing, specify the IP address for each node. All nodes and the VIP must reside on the same subnet. 7. After you change the default IP settings, use the new addresses to access the Administration GUI. If you specify erroneous network settings or lose access to a node for any reason, connect a monitor and keyboard to the VGA and USB ports on the back of the node. To change settings, use the clx_network command. After the nodes are correctly configured for networking, plug the first node into your switch. The Configure Alerter screen appears: 9. Configure alerts as shown below and then click Save settings: Customer name: Specify the customer name. Subscribers: If you want the Clustrix Support team to receive alerts to enable them to monitor the health of your cluster, retain the entry for [email protected]. Add additional recipients as desired, using a comma-separated list of email addresses. Server: Enter the SMTP mail server or smart host. Port: Enter the port number. Default is 25. Subject: Enter the subject of the email. You can use system variables to compose the subject. Body: Enter the body of the email. You can use system variables to compose the body. 10. To configure the time zone, set the system_time_zone global variable. For example: clustrix> SET GLOBAL system_time_zone='PST8PDT'; 11. Try connecting with a MySQL client to the VIP or any of the node IPs. That’s it! You’re ready to import your data! Refer to the Importing Your Data section of the System Administrator's Guide. Monitoring Refer to the Administering the Cluster section of the System Administrator's Guide to set up system monitoring. Contacting Support Use our support team!
