Message from the President :
Round 2 is done and dusted and think that most of us are starting to get into routine – up early on Sunday morning,
encourage our favourite player/s to get out of bed and have breakfast, have a quick warm-up soccer game on
Playstation 4, go through the pre-game ritual (is it the left sock first or the right one?). You get the picture?
Over the weekend we played in typical winter weather. Lots of rain and wind. The job of being a coach, team manager,
lines official, or even a parent being prepared to stand on the side line and cheer the team on days like this is much
appreciated. Thanks to one and all for taking on the various roles in the club on matchdays; particularly on those days
like last Sunday.
I’ll be taking a leave of absence from the club over the coming fortnight as I’ll be away with the family. Please continue
to liaise with the club committee members in the event that you need assistance during this period.
All parents and players are reminded about the FFV’s code of conduct. For those that have not read the codes, please
review the players’ code below.
On a sad note, a club committee member for the past two years, Vanessa Ouston, has announced her resignation from
the SUJSC Committee in late March but has remained on board until the end of April. Both of Vanessa’s boys, Daniel
and Ben, are no longer playing soccer, hence Vanessa will no longer have children at the club. Vanessa has made a
significant contribution to the club in her time including the key role of club registrar as well as providing great wisdom
on club policy related issues. I hope to one day see the return of the Ouston family to the club to once again play this
great game.
So it’s 再 见 (goodbye) from me (I’ll have to brush up on my Cantonese while I’m away). Or perhaps Ciao for now!!!
Paul DiBlasi.
President

FFV Handbook
The FFV has released a 2014 Club Handbook. It’s chocker block with the quick answers to those frequently asked
match day questions - from security and referees to clash strips and ground conditions. A copy will be sent to all
members as a companion to this newsletter.
It may be worthwhile for all team managers to have a copy with them on match days. Here’s a couple of
examples:
Playing Attire (Page 5)
Question:
The opposition team has arrived in a strip which clashes with ours, what happens next?
 It is the away team’s responsibility to provide an alternative strip that the referee deems does not clash
with the opposition. An alternative strip must be sourced within 15 minutes of the kick off.
 The away team will be deemed to have forfeited the fixture if they cannot provide an alternative strip,
provided the home team is wearing their nominated home kit.
 The home team must wear their nominated home kit colours as stated in the 2014 FFV Strip Report.
 Where there is a dispute over playing strips, FFV will investigate the matter to determine an outcome.
Question:
What jewellery can a player wear on the field?
 NONE. Using tape to cover jewellery is not acceptable.
 The FIFA Laws of the Game state that a player who has been required to leave the field of play because
of an infringement of this Law and who re-enters the field of play without the referee’s permission must be
cautioned.
Question:
What can I do to reduce the amount of hair product being used by the U/16 players?
 Club President – ‘There is no answer to that one, but you can start by taking away their mirrors at home!’
Wet Weather Days
It’s a winter sport so we play on match days, no matter how much wind and rain occurs during the game. Please
make sure that all players bring along sufficient clothing on match day.
As all players are rotated off the bench on match days it is crucial that players have additional clothing to retain
warmth while waiting to go on the field.
Parents may need to check that their favourite player has in their match bag a spray jacket, beanie,
additional socks and runners, t-shirt/jumper, skins, hair gel (oh sorry, did anyone mention the U/16 boys
team?).
