Interview Transcript with Questions
Reed: What's it like growing up in Chicago?
Rose: It's fun, man. I'm happy I'm from there, actually. Anybody that's from Chicago has a lot of pride
and respect for Chicago. It's a great place to be where you can do anything you want to do while you're

there, no matter what time it is. The people there are friendly, and they're positive people.
Reed: I remember taking that twenty-minute, thirty-minute drive over to Cabrini Green and the Robert
Taylor Homes. They no longer exist, but it was all about the playground legends that came from Chicago.
Rose: Chicago is definitely that way. I think it's a type of basketball you play. I think I play a type of
basketball where it's just that Chicago-type dribbling, one-on-one type of game where no fouls are
called...One thing--you got to have heart. In Chicago, if you're out there playing and you don't have
heart, people are definitely going to take advantage of you.

Reed: What was your favorite place to eat at and hang out at when you were in Chicago at home?
Name: ______________________________
Rose: You know, everything is different for me, like my background is different. Like the favorite places...I
didn't eat at a restaurant until high school, so we're talking about favorite restaurants and stuff, but it was
stuff that was in my neighborhood like corner stores, local stores, stuff like that. Everything was different;
it's definitely a different place, and I'm happy I'm from there.

Reed: How did you avoid staying out of the trouble that you might have run into on the streets of
Chicago?
Rose: For me, my family was always there for me. I wasn't a bad kid; I went to school, came home, played
basketball all day, did my homework at night. It's just different...in the neighborhood itself, you just go
hoop, no matter where you are, you just hoop. I just tried to stay positive where there was a lot of
negativity going on, not only in Chicago, but around the world. For me to be so young, I had to grow up
super fast. At 19, I'm taking care of my whole family--19 years old, only one year of college. Now being
at the age of 23 and having people look up to you like you're a role model is a different role for me. I
just try to stay clean, be positive, show a lot of love to people, and really just be myself. That's all I can
be--myself.

Rose: Last year, of course, was devastating. I believe in God. I can't complain about anything. This injury
could have been worse...I'm blessed. I'm happy to be here. The injury is doing fine. I'm having rehab five
times a week, twice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so that's great. It's definitely tough.
Reed: You have this way of putting things in a positive perspective. I would have been angry.
Rose: You have your times when you definitely think about how the season could have turned out. Miami
won. So what? We've got next year. There are too many months to stay mad.
Reed: What's it like to see your own logo, your own brand? You're from Chicago and you didn't go to a
restaurant until you were in high school...
Rose: That's what I'm telling you...how can I complain? Growing up was so hard; I don't even want to talk
about it. I had a tough time. You couldn't tell me that I'd be right here talking in the future talking to
