The plant utilizes coal and fuel oil as a source of fuel and generates steam to heat the entire North Campus. The boiler plant structure is in fair condition. Deferred maintenance items need attention. The plant continues to serve its intended purpose efficiently; however, plant capacity has not kept pace with campus demand. A feasibility study was conducted in 1998 to identify expansion needs to meet current and future growth. Since funding was not available for the recommended renovation and expansion, a temporary boiler was purchased to supplement capacity.
