C4 - A217 Brighton Road Burgh Wood Horseshoe Crossing C3 – Banstead High Street linkage to Banstead Station Crossing the Brighton Road between Burgh Wood Road on the western side of the A217 and The Horseshoe on the eastern side is currently diicult. It’s a busy spot with three nearby schools and yet the closest crossing is some 450 metres away on Garratts Lane. To improve this a push button crossing for pedestrians and cyclists will be installed to create a formal, safe crossing directly connecting Burgh Wood Road with The Horseshoe. There is currently no designated cycle route between Banstead High Street and Banstead rail station. To address this we would put in a signed cycle route from the High Street via Bolters Lane and The Horseshoe, to join up with the new toucan crossing across A217 Brighton Road. This route will continue along a shared pedestrian and cycle path along Burgh Wood, connecting with an on-road route along Green Curve, Eastgate and then through to Banstead rail station. The paths leading to Banstead rail station from Nork, which are currently dark and overgrown, will be widened and re-surfaced. The lighting will be improved and the overgrown shrubs cut back.
