In emerging economies, added complications are in macro-‐economic reforms, affecting market-‐ and competitive structures, the financial sector as well as the role of Government. Coping with these forces requires a balanced approach in strategic positioning, with primary choices concerning product range, markets, price setting as well as organization design following strategy. In this intensive interactive 3-‐day course, the process of strategic analysis and strategy formulation is carefully examined, with special attention to the perspective of (growing) organizations and start-‐ups in emerging economies. The course centers on the following questions: • How can the concept of strategy help you as a manager or entrepreneur? • How can you find your way in the “jungle” of strategic models and theories that contemporary management literature has to offer? • How can you understand your organization’s strategy and its strategic challenges? • How do you define vision, mission and organizational purpose for your organization? • How do you apply the models and frameworks to your own organizational challenges? • How do you define a strategy that works for your organization? Who should apply: The course is specifically designed for professionals who want to learn more about strategic concepts and tools, and who want to use these tools in order to define a sound strategy for their own organization. All applicants must have sufficient knowledge of the course language – English and at least three years of relevant working experience is recommended to take full advantage of what the course has to offer. The program has the following learning objectives: • To update participants with the analytical concepts and tools in the field of strategy formulation including the latest developments • To enhance the professional skills of participants in this field • To stimulate critical thinking by the sharing of real life experiences amongst participants and between participants and the trainer • To enhance the participant’s broader managerial skills, ultimately leading to increased personal effectiveness Instructor’s Biography: Mr. Dafir Kramer Mr. Dafir Kramer is member of the Adjunct Faculty of the Maastricht School of Management. His main interest lies in bringing strategy into real life action and in bringing real life action into strategic perspective. He has worked for different organizations as consultant, coach, facilitator and teacher. Dafir received his MSc degree from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, where he specialized in both Strategic Management and Change Management. He also attended MBA at McGill University in Montreal. Immediately after finishing university in 1998, he started teaching strategy. Since then he has designed and taught strategy programs for several Business Schools and in many different companies. Dafir has worked for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has been involved in training and advisory services to many Dutch diplomats working abroad. Apart from his passion for teaching, Dafir has worked his entire career as an entrepreneur in various businesses and as a business consultant, specialized in strategy and change management. Dafir has had many assignment for organizations both in the commercial and the public sector on issues concerning, strategy, organization and change. He coached (senior) managers, led strategic discussions, and facilitated organizational change programs. As such he gained extensive experience, not only on the field of strategy formulation, but also on implementing strategic initiatives.
