THE UFH BASKETBALL TEAM TAKES
ON A CHALLENGE
Alice: The University of Fort Hare, basketball team has qualified to play in the National
Inter-Varsity Basketball Championships after beating their Eastern Cape counterparts,
Walter Sisulu University and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. The championships
will be held at the Pretoria University of Technology this July.
The twelve men team captained by Neville Nyati, are currently in camp at the Alice
campus, under the watchful eye of their coach, Dr. Lyoka, who is attached to the
Human Movement Sciences (HMS) department at the University of Fort Hare. Like other
sports science institutes, HMS department provides scientific support to all the
university’s sports teams.

The players are Likhaya M.(Alice), Nyati, N.(Alice), Qenge, N.(Alice), Tineyi, G.(Alice), Sobukwe(Alice), Schirambi, T.(EL),
Thando (EL), Noel (EL), Napoleon Madziro (EL), Lennon Maruziva (EL), Bruce Jere (EL) and Kgoboko, K. (Alice).
Let’s give these university ambassadors the necessary support they deserve during the
preparation and competition so as to bring the trophy and to see one or two of these
players selected for national team, said Lyoka.
