Member of an External Review Panel which assessed 16 sub-projects undertaken in context of the “Middle
East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Initiative for Dryland Management [previously known as the
Initiative for Collaboration to Control Natural Resource Degradation (Desertification) of Arid Lands in the
Middle East]”. The Panel distilled the main findings into an evaluation report on the Initiative’s main
accomplishments, lessons learned, and main contribution to the objectives of enhancing collaboration and
knowledge exchange between the participating Arab countries (Egypt, Jordan, Palestinian Authority and
Tunisia) and Israel.

Directing and supervising implementation of the VVOB program (2003-2007) in Zambia; The program
budget amounts to 5 million Euro. Development assistance program includes multi-sectoral and subsectoral projects in Education, Health and Environment to assist the country to attain the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs). The function embodies program and strategy development to address key
issues through targeted interventions.
Identifying, selecting and assisting potential operational partners in the development of projects following
the Policies and Procedures outlined by the Belgian Administration for Development Cooperation and in
close consultation with the strategic partners in the Zambian Government.
Evaluating project identification and formulation documents and advise the VVOB HQ regarding approval
and allocation of funds.
Streamline and monitor quarterly progress of all VVOB supported projects in Zambia during
implementation.
Organize and provide guidance for the mid-term and final evaluations of the projects within the VVOB
Zambia program by external expert consultants.
Supervising all office facilities and activities including procurement, information systems, finances
Personnel supervision and management (10 International experts) ;

Innovation and Rural development: In close collaboration with national stakeholders developing and testing
natural resource management practices that improve rural livelihoods by promoting the use of locally
available natural resources, specifically targeting disadvantaged rural areas in different agro-ecozones.
Coordination: Day-to-day management of a collaborative network of National Agricultural Research Systems
(NARS) (design/planning, budget negotiations, follow up, data analysis, reporting) as well as in the
organization of scientific symposia, training courses and yearly evaluation and planning workshops with all
stakeholders (Scientific community in agric. research, NARES, NGOs and grass-root organizations).
Networking: Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with extension services , national
and international actors in the region, for the joint dissemination of innovative agric. technologies.
Fund raising: Development of proposals for generation of external (complementary) funding to BADC
(Belgian Administration for Development Cooperation), ACIAR (Australian Centre for International
Agricultural Research), the Rockefeller Foundation and CTA (Centre Technique de Coopération Agricole)
all of which have been effectively funded.
Evaluation: Participated in Center Commissioned External Reviews (CCER) of institute-wide projects and
External Program and Management Reviews (EPMR’s) at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture.
