Job Description – Peer Support Group and Development
Worker
Leeds Mind is a progressive mental health organisation that supports people experiencing
mental health difficulties to flourish. We are committed to developing services that are
sensitive to individual need and of measurable benefit to users.
Purpose of the post
The group and development worker will be support for the delivery of skills courses and
workshops and/or support groups at venues across the city. In addition, they will also be
responsible for liaising with other organisation and groups to both promote the Service and
develop partnerships which support development and expansion of the Service.
The post holder will lead on the peer support element of the Outdoors, Active and Well
project. This is a partnership project, funded by Big Lottery Reaching Communities and lead
by Leeds Mind. The partners are Hollybush and Hyde Park Source who provide environmental
groups. The project aims to improve the wellbeing, resilience, coping skills and social
networks of disadvantaged individuals and communities across Leeds.
HPS and Hollybush will provide community based outdoor activities around developing
community green spaces at a range of sites across Leeds. The post holder will work in
partnership with these groups to provide peer-led support activities which will enable people
to develop skills around employability and managing their mental health. These will be at
locations across the city. In addition they will also be responsible for liaising with other
organisation and groups to both promote the Service
Key duties and responsibilities
Group work
1.
Delivery of skills based courses and workshops to help people better manage their
mental health and improve their employability at locations across the city.
2.
Delivery of taster sessions for various organisations across Leeds.
3.
Collection of evaluation and monitoring information from the groups.
4.
Recruitment, support and mentoring of volunteers who show an interest in becoming
peer support volunteers.
Development work - OAW
1.
To work closely with staff from Hollybush and HPS to meet the demand for peer
support group work activities by people using the environmental groups and develop
the project.

To promote the peer support groups to members of Hollybush and HPS groups.

To work with group members to design the course and workshop content.
To develop peer-led employment support group work activities for people who are
ready to look for work, that will support them to develop skills to gain paid
employment.
To promote of the project to other organisations across Leeds and provision of taster
sessions.
To recruit, mentor and supervise OAW volunteers.
To maintain accurate records for the project.
Development work - other
1.
Development activities will be focused and time limited will be agreed following
discussions with the Peer Support Team Leader and Service Manager. A flexible
approach will be needed and key duties could include
 Identifying and implementing development opportunities where the Peer Support
model may be applicable.
 Developing and maintaining partnerships which promote the development of a city
wide peer support service that is accessible to all people in Leeds.
 Delivery of training internally and for other organisations (e.g peer support
facilitator training).
Admin/record keeping
1.
Maintain appropriate and accurate monitoring records
2.
Monitor and evaluate outcomes through 1:1 sessions, questionnaires and periodic
direct contact with the group members; contribute to quarterly performance reports
with case studies
3.
Collect, collate and return monitoring data in a timely manner.
4.
To produce reports including output and outcome data, analysis and an evaluation of
the impact of your work, as required.
Organisation
