Year 6 Enterprise
Year 6 pupils have been busy
demonstrating their entrepreneurial skills
hoping to make a huge profit on their initial
£5 investment. On Friday 16th December
there was an assortment of goodies, bath
bombs, chocolate gifts, games to play and
prizes to be won.
Miss Newman took children from year 6, who had
participated in the after school basketball club, to Manor
High School in Sale to take part in the Trafford Basketball
League competition. Over the 2 weeks the children
competed against many different schools and did really
well and finished 5th in their group.
Class 10 – Year 6 Hatworks Trip
In November, the Year 6 classes went to Stockport
and visited the Hatworks museum. First, they were
split into two groups. Then one group had a tour
around the museum, whilst the other made felt. The
tour began when Tiff, the tour guide, led them
underground to see the process of hat making.
Before factories, hats took weeks to manufacture,
instead of minutes. After the tour, we had a feltmaking session which was actually quite hard work!
We had to push down on the wet, soapy wool and roll
it hard until all the water was pushed out of it. Once
it was dry, it felt like normal felt! In the afternoon, we
did some sketching and museum curator work. It
was great fun.
Street Dance
Classes 7 & 9 have enjoyed
showing off their talents
during Street Dance sessions
this half term.
Miss Hassal, Mr Daly and Mrs
Brown have been extremely
proud of the children’s ‘have a
go’ attitude. Well done!
Class 1 & 2 were visited by
Oral Health UK. They
spoke to us about how we
can keep our teeth clean
and healthy. We learnt
lots of new information,
for example, how much
toothpaste we should use
and how long we should be brushing our teeth
for.

Breaking into Business
This half term the children in year 3 and 4 have been developing
entrepreneur skills. They have worked in teams to think of
innovative product ideas. They then pitched their ideas to a panel of
judges from different business
backgrounds, similar to Dragon’s Den.
They were all given feedback about their product ideas and they
used this feedback to improve their plans.
All groups were then given a budget and they priced up the items
that they needed for production. They then had a few production
days followed by a fantastic market day. The whole school, as
well as many parents, enjoyed looking at the products, listening
to the children’s sales presentations and of course buying the products.
A huge well done to the children and a big thank you to everybody at Highfield for your support.

Class 1 RSPB Visit
This term Class 1 were lucky enough to have a visit from the
RSPB, the children went outside on a bird hunt to see which
birds they could spot, we learnt about the different noises
birds make and the types of things they like to eat. The
children also got chance to make ‘paper plate birds’.
