TASMANIAN IVOR BURGE MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM (For players with an intellectual disability) WHAT ARE THEY –The Tasmanian Ivor Burge Men’s Basketball Team is a state men’s basketball team that participate in the Ivor Burge championships every year. The Ivor Burge Championships are the National Basketball championships for players with an intellectual disability (both male and female).The championships are held annually by Basketball Australia in a different State each year. The Championships play an important role in the development of the Australian National team’s, the Boomerangs (men) and Pearls (women) , with the Championships providing a pathway for participants wanting to represent Australia at major International events , such as the Global games . WHO ARE THEY AND WHO IS ELIGILBLE –The Ivor Burge Championship’s follow the international eligibility standards. A participant’s eligibility is based on an intelligence quotient (IQ) of 75 or below. The participant must also have limitations in adaptive behaviour skills. Examples of these skills include: communication, self-care, self – direction and social/ interpersonal skills. The condition must have been acquired before the age of 18. There are no age limits on a participant’s eligibility.
