Academic Habits: Sleep • 56 Hours per week • That means 8 per night!! • Establish a bedtime and wakeup routine • Avoid blue light before sleep • Avoid caffeine after 2 PM • Restrict naps to 20 to 30 minutes • Learning involves three neuronal processes: • • • • Acquisition of information Consolidation Recall Lack of sleep drastically affects consolidation Academic Habits: Studying • Establish Objectives and create checklists • Schedule specific times during your day to study • Take a 10 minute break after hour of studying • Flashcards, Mnemonics • Visual association necessary for memory recall • Use consistent, quiet spaces • Review your class notes… this is critical! Academic Habits: Tests and Essays • Essays • Create a preliminary outline and research your sources early • Keep a log of all consulted sources for Bibliographies or Works Cited pages • Tests • Begin studying 1-2 weeks in advance • Consult your Teacher’s Assistants • Eat protein rich foods and whole grains; avoid fatty foods and white flour baked goods • Come to the test 5-10 minutes early UNIT Academic Policies • MINIMUM STANDARDS: 2.75 GPA • AEP Study Hours • Two AEP sessions per week at host university • Calc/Physics tutoring • Monday-Thursday 1800-2000 That’s All Folks!
