Precept Project
Throughout the novel “Wonder,” Mr. Brown and his students share their precepts, or a general
rule that helps define a behavior or thought. Examples of Mr. Brown’s precepts include
“Your deeds are your monuments.” –Inscription on ancient Egyptian tomb
“Kind words do not cost much. Yet they accomplish much.” —Blaise Pascal
For this project, you will select five precepts. No more than two can be from the novel. The
others you choose may be from other books you have read, famous authors, writers, scientists,
athletes, etc or you may write your own. For each precept you will create a precept postcard.
The postcard MUST include
1. The precept and the author
2. A drawing or photograph that illustrates the message of the precept
3. A stamp (you can draw or print one) and be addressed to your teacher
You will attach a one paragraph explanation to each postcard. The explanation MUST include
1. An explanation of the message of the precept
2. An explanation of how that message applies to our lives in class, in school or in our
community
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful
lot, nothing is going to be better. It’s not. –Dr.

This quote by Dr. Seuss shows how everyone is responsible for looking out for each other and
our community. If we think that something needs to be changed, then we need to take
responsibility for it ourselves. One example of this is our campus beautification duties at school.
We are members of this school and we cannot expect the school to be clean unless we take action
ourselves. In my own personal life, I know that I can count on my teachers for support in school,
but unless I take control and put the effort into my own education, I cannot expect success.
