MATCHPLAY COMPETITIONS 2017
GENERIC RULES:
1. All rounds must be played off White Tee Markers unless otherwise decreed by
the Competitions Committee.
2. Reasonable timescales are allowed for completion of rounds when the draw is
made. Each round of matches must be played by the nominated dates as per
the draw sheet. The Competition Committee will strictly adhere to these dates
in administering the competition. Matches that remain unplayed by the
“To be completed by dates” will be disqualified, unless a walkover
has been agreed. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as the course
being unplayable for a prolonged period of time, will dates for completion of
rounds be extended.
3. The onus is on the player(s) at the top of the draw sheet to contact the
opposition and arrange a match date. Please ensure that your details are
correct on the draw sheets. Unfortunately not all entrants (as requested)
provided phone contact details on the entry sheets. If contact details are not
shown please contact the office for details.
4. In the event of disagreement /problems arranging matches, either side should
contact the Competitions Secretary whose decision will be final.
5. Players are advised to contact their opponent(s) as soon as draw(s) is made to
allow as much time as possible to play the match before the play by date
expires.
6. The winner(s) of each match is responsible for recording the result. The
winner(s) must write their name(s) in appropriate square on draw sheet. If a
result is not entered on the draw sheet by the due date player(s) will be
deemed to have scratched.
7. Five-Day and lifestyle member(s) playing in matchplay competitions must pay
the appropriate green where required.
8. Where a match has been arranged and a player(s) arrives 5 minutes late of the
agreed tee off time the player(s) present on the tee at the arranged time is
awarded the match.
9. The Competition Committee reserves the right to amend the rules of the
competition at any stage during the course of the competition.

HANDICAP RULES:
 Players exact handicaps on the day of each match shall apply e.g.
15.3 = 15, 16.7 = 17.
SINGLES:
 Lowest player plays off scratch. Other player has handicap lowered
by subtracting the handicap of the lower player.
 Player A off 10 =
> Playing Handicap = Scratch
Player B off 18 =
> Playing Handicap = 8
Player B will have shots on hole indexes 1 - 8
FOURSOMES:
 Handicap Allowance – ½ the difference between the combined
handicaps
Players A and B off 12 and 21
Players C and D off 9 and 15
Combined = 33
Combined = 24
Difference in combined handicaps = 9, ½ of 9 = 4.5, rounded up, 4.5 = 5
Players A and B get shots on hole indexes 1 - 5
FOURBALL:
 Lowest player plays off scratch. Other players have their handicap
lowered by subtracting the handicap of the lowest player and
dividing this handicap by 90%
Player A off 8 => Playing Handicap = Scratch
Player B off 12 => Playing Handicap = 4
Player C off 16 => Playing Handicap = 7
Player D off 21 => Playing Handicap = 12
