Why are antioxidants so good for you?

Antioxidants help to prevent or stop cell damage caused by
oxidative damage (1).

When oxygen is metabolised, it creates unstable molecules
called ‘free radicals’, which steal electrons from other
molecules, causing damage to body cells.

This process is called oxidation. Oxidation can be
accelerated by stress, cigarette smoking, alcohol, sunlight,
pollution and other factors (2).


European Journal of Nutrition (1) indicates that olive leaf
extract* may help to support cardiovascular health.

Blood Sugar Support - A clinical study published in the
peer-reviewed journal PLosOne (2) conducted by the
Liggins Institute at the University of Auckland, indicated
that olive leaf extract may help to improve insulin
secretion and the way it is taken up by the cells.

may ask?
If I am taking antibiotics, can I take Olive Leaf Extract (OLE) as well?
There are no known interactions with Olive Leaf Extract and antibiotics, however we always
recommend consulting a healthcare professional if taking prescription medications. If a
customer is taking antibiotics for cough, cold or flu it may beneficial to take OLE, as it is
traditionally used to support the immune system.
Can I take Olive Leaf Extract if I am taking other products for cough, cold or flu such as
cough syrup or cold and flu tablets?
Olive Leaf Extract (OLE) is traditionally used to support the immune system and relieve
symptoms of cough, cold and flu. There are no known interactions between OLE and over
the counter cough, cold and flu preparations. If a customer has any concerns or symptoms
persist, we always recommend to consult a healthcare professional.
Is it better to take a liquid or a capsule? Why?
Liquids absorbed faster into the blood stream and are sometimes considered more
bioavailable to the body. A liquid extract can be good for sore throats or mouth conditions
because you can hold the product in the mouth of swill for a little while before swallowing.
Can I take OLE if I am taking statins, antihypertensive medication or beta blockers for
cholesterol concerns and/ or high blood pressure?
Whilst there are no known medicine interaction with OLE, we strongly recommend
consumers consult their healthcare professional before taking OLE if they are taking
prescription medications.

Can Olive Leaf Extract Natural flavour be given to children?
Yes. For children 2-8 years, it is recommended to give them 2.5mls twice daily. For children 812 years, it is recommended to give them 5mls twice daily. Children can also take Comvita®
Fresh-picked™ OLE Children’s Formula 200ml – a great tasting mixed berry flavour that is
specially developed for children 2+ years.
Can this product be taken long term without developing a tolerance?
Comvita® has a number of loyal customers who have been taking OLE since the farm first
started harvesting and bottling OLE. We have had no feedback to suggest that people are
developing tolerances to our OLE, but we do have many happy customers!
Why is alcohol free better than products that have been extracted using alcohol?
While products using an alcohol extraction method will generally only leave small amounts of
alcohol in a product, some people prefer their extract to have no alcohol at all, particularly if
being given to children or with certain conditions. Our OLE uses a hot water extraction
method, meaning all the goodness in the leaves is extracted without the need for using
alcohol.
Why is there such a big price difference between Comvita® OLE and some other products
on the market?
Our Fresh-Picked OLE is made from fresh leaves, not a dried leaf imported from overseas. This
means all naturally occurring plant polyphenols are going straight into the bottle without it
being dried, shipped in from another country or reconstituted. The full mix of nature’s
goodness is in the bottle.
