Brief Statement from the AERA. The following motion put to AERA by SAERA was recently adopted by the AERA. SAERA proposes that all horses attending TQ17, whose property of origin lies within a known Hendra risk area as identified in the AERA Bio security document, present at the event with a current Hendra vaccination certificate, in addition to any other bio security measures which will form part of the TQ17 biosecurity document. It should be noted until this motion was secured no off event hospital treatment was available for ANY horse attending TQ17 regardless of its property of origin. This is not a risk the SAERA was prepared to take. Further, extensive reporting records that of 232 starters at this year’s TQ16 in Victoria, 7 horses only from the AERA identified risk areas presented at the event unvaccinated. SAERA and TQ17 would have liked the opportunity to present the complete event biosecurity plan to riders nationally however the plan could not be finalised until the outcome of the motion put to AERA on 19 November was known. The full event biosecurity document will be released in due course. In the interests of full disclosure and enabling planning of vaccination around the upcoming season break AERA has decided to advise the Hendra vaccination status of TQ17 immediately. TO BE CLEAR, HORSES PRESENTING TO TQ17 WHOSE PROPERTY OF ORIGIN IS IN THE FOLLOWING LIST must be vaccinated to attend the event. Further AERA reserves the right to revisit the list below should the Hendra situation change in coming months.
