On Monday 21 July 2014, at 10:30 am the Mid North Coast Community Legal Centre celebrated its third year of operating and the opening of their new premises at 30 Murray Street, Port Macquarie – just two doors up from Port Macquarie Court House. Catherine Peek, of Advocacy Law Alliance, the parent organisation of the community legal centre, said, "it has been amazing to see the centre develop over the last three years after all the hard work behind the scenes to get it up and running." "Thousands of local older people, people with a disability and Aboriginal people have been directly assisted by the Centre's solicitors. We have tough challenges ahead but with local support I know the Centre will grow, improve and help even more people in the future". Dr David Gillespie MP, Member for Lyne, was present as a special guest to help celebrate the occasion and show his support for the work of the community legal centre. He said, “Legal Aid, Community Legal Centres, Aboriginal Legal Service, all of these community legal services make part of a matrix that puts a safety net for all of us”. Also present were many well respected members of the Mid North Coast community, including solicitors and other community service providers. The new premises includes a library of legal resources and computers which are available to the public to help them with their legal matters. Mid North Coast Community Legal Centre was established in 2011 and first opened its doors on 3 June 2011. It is co funded by the NSW and Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department to provide free legal services to people living in the Mid North Coast region, including Kempsey, Port Macquarie, Taree and the surrounding areas. Mr Arrage also said, "we are very proud that Mid North Coast Community Legal Centre, has tried to reach even more local people by providing 100 education sessions to inform community workers and the community generally about their rights under the law".
