DIAGRAMS, CHARTS AND GRAPHS
Presenting tables of numbers can be very informative but they may lack visual impact. You
may want the user to recognise similarities and differences instantly. A diagram, chart or
graph can help by summarising the key features of the data and representing them
graphically.

the following outside temperature data. Decide on a suitable diagram form to plot the
temperature profile from 7 July 2016 to 14 July 2016.

Open a new Excel spreadsheet and rename the worksheet by double-clicking its name
and typing in “outside temperature”.

Create a diagram suitable for plotting a temperature profile.

Find an appropriate chart title.

Compare your line chart with the diagram on the BeeBIT website: www.beebit.de. Go
to diagrams, choose beehive DEU-DHG-1, select temperature, set start date to
07/07/2016 and end date to 14/07/2016, and show the diagram.
Explain the differences.
The BeeBIT eHives have different sizes, resulting in different weights. Use the data below
to plot the different countries’ eHive sizes in a suitable chart. Add an appropriate title.

If there is still time left, you can change the look of the diagram as you like. You can, for
instance, add a background to the diagram or change the font type or colour.
