MGH Contracting Guidance Decision Tree MGH Research Compliance Office Rachel Ackman May 14, 2013 What is it? • A series of questions that should guide you to the BEST place to start • A way to think through the important details of the project How do I use it? • If you already know who should handle your contract – there’s no need to consult the Decision Tree. How do I use it? • If you do not know who should handle your contract, you can use this Decision Tree in almost any situation where: – An MGH staff member is PARTICIPATING in a project with an outside entity • Collaboration, programmatic activity, or an ongoing relationship What about… • Materials Management – MM focuses on procurement and purchasing – We needed to keep the scope of the Decision Tree narrow in order for it to be understandable • Development (gifts) – We intend to incorporate the Development Office, but the processes need to be clarified first. Its being worked on currently. • Material Transfer or Data Use Agmts: MTAs & DUAs – These are transactional and do not usually establish a relationship. • Others – If there are any other situations you’d like to see addressed, please tell me about them: [email protected] Confused? • Its ok! Contracts at Partners can be confusing sometimes. – Each contracting office has its own focus; sometimes they have to work together to get your contract right. – If you send it to one office, it may still end up with a different office depending on who has the right set of skills. – You can always call Research Compliance if you have questions. Let’s see it! • Ok, but first… – Its not perfect. The contracting process will continue to change and evolve as Partners and MGH see different situations and develop processes for them. – If you have feedback or suggestions, I’d love to hear them: [email protected] MGH Contracting Guidance Decision Tree http://mghresearch.partners.org/Research _Compliance/ContractDecisionTree.aspx
