Faith Seeks to Understand The Rev. Gordon Lindsey 2698 Powell Creek Drive Charlottesville, VA 22911 434-295-5783 ggrlindsey@ earthlink.net www.faithseeks2understand.jimdo.com • What is Faith Seeks to Understand? Faith Seeks to Understand is a Christian teaching ministry for adults by the Rev. Gordon Lindsey. It specializes in short-term educational events. They include study courses, lecture series, workshops, and retreats. The ministry operates on the belief that a solid Christian education program for adults is the foundation for a church’s wider educational ministry. Adults well grounded in the Christian faith best model the faith for children and young people in their church. Gordon’s goal is to help provide this grounding by giving lay people access to a richer understanding of the Bible and of the teachings and practices of the Christian Church. • What topics or subject areas does Faith Seeks to Understand offer? Gordon offers a variety of classes and short-term courses in Bible study, Christian doctrine, church history, and worship and spirituality. One three-session Bible study, for example, is titled “Who’s In, Who’s Out?” It looks at the task of defining a religious identity (a serious task in many churches today) as seen through the perspective of Ezra/Nehemiah, Ruth, and Jonah. A full listing of the courses he has taught in other churches or community groups can be found on his website: www.faithseeks2understand.jimdo.com. He develops customized lectures/courses on subjects a church group requests if given enough lead time to prepare. • What do people say about Gordon’s teaching? Gordon seeks to translate academic theology into language and concepts lay people can understand. This gives them access to the rich theological work being done in our seminaries and universities today. He also seeks to make accessible to lay people the rich traditions of Christian spirituality. He has been successful enough in this task that he has received rave reviews for his teaching. Here is one example: Gordon’s first class at the church where I serve was so popular we could barely wait to have him teach again. He is a gifted educator who unwraps complex Biblical and spiritual topics in a way that makes them accessible to everyone in the room. He encourages his students to dig deeper and make connections between the material and their lives. -- Cheryl Taylor Director of Christian Education Trinity Presbyterian Church Flower Mound, Texas For a fuller listing of testimonials, visit his website: www.faithseeks2understand.jimdo.com. 1 • What are Gordon’s qualifications for teaching?
