game, the goal and let’s clarify again, we are talking about your
overarching goal or Why your organization exists. I want:
i. To convince you that a clear and compelling goal is a
foundational tool for the success of any organization and can
guide all of your decisions and even engage others to join your
adventure.

undersused motivator.

to get others engaged.
4. Why? (have a goal) Let me give you 5 Reasons Why Setting and Clarifying
Your Organization’s Goal/Purpose/Mission Is Important:
5. Focus. First, Goals Give You Focus
a. Imagine having to shoot an arrow without being given a target. Where
would you aim? And say you did aim at some random thing. Why would
1
you aim there? And what would the purpose be? Get the idea… This is a
literal example of what life is like without a goal or target in mind. It’s
pointless and waste of energy and effort.
6. Measuring tape. Secondly, Goals Allow You To Measure Progress
a. By setting goals you are able to measure progress because now, with a
clear concrete goal there is a fixed endpoint or benchmark with which
to compare.
7. Steve Jobs. Third, Goals Keep You Locked In And Undistracted
a. By setting goals you establish mental boundaries. When you have a
certain end point in mind you automatically stay away from certain
distractions and stay focused towards the goal. This process happens
automatically and subtly but, according to research really does happen.
8. Now/Later. Fourth,Goals Help You Overcome Procrastination
a. When you set a goal for yourself you make yourself accountable to
finish the task. This is in complete contrast with when you do
things based off of a whim and it doesn't matter whether you complete
them or not. Goals tend to stick in your mind. These reminders in
the back of your head help you to overcome procrastination and laziness.
9. Carrot. Finally, Goals Give You Motivation (Meaning)
a. The root of all the motivation or inspiration you have ever felt in your
entire life are goals. Goal setting provides you the foundation for your
drive. By making a goal you give yourself a concrete endpoint to aim
for and get excited about. It gives you something to focus on and put
100% of your effort into and this focus is reflective of your motivation.
b. Goals are simply tools to focus energy in positive directions, goals can and should
be changed as priorities change, new ones added, and others dropped

just that.
11. S t e p 1 : C l e a r l y d e s c r i b e T h e P r o b l e m - What’s the pain point
you help your customer resolve?
a. In this step, identify who you want to engage and the major problem
you help them eliminate. Where is life painful or uncomfortable?
You can get specific, but keep it concise.
12. S t e p 2 : Y o u s h a r e w i t h t h e m y o u r o r g a n i z a t i o n ’ s S o l u t i o n a. In this step, show how the product that you make or the service
your organization delivers takes that pain away. The key here is to
show how your organization’s solution is different than other
options you client may have.

your service or product offering. This is where you get to describe
the transformation of what’s possible when that pain goes away.
