Give reasons for your answer showing that you have considered different points of view. Tip from Examiner: This question requires the evaluation of a religious practice, namely the use of church buildings for other purposes. You are required to express an opinion, which is supported by reason, evidence and argument. Different points of view must be considered. Key points may include: • The church should be used to reach out to others; this is not necessarily only done through worship services. Jesus himself set an example of reaching out to all, for example, women, outcasts and foreigners. The Church should be following his example and open their doors for all sorts of social events. • Churches are sacred buildings and should be kept only for worshipping God. • If secular/social activities were to be held in a Church building, it would not be any different from a community hall. The question is open ended and candidates may respond positively or negatively (or combine positive and negative points). It is the quality of argument that attracts marks rather than the viewpoint adopted.
