Combination of UAN and CaTs® Improves Yield and Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Cotton and Corn C a T s® Research on cotton and corn has shown that application of CaTs (calcium thiosulfate) with UAN solution can improve yields and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE). Cotton Treatment 1.) UAN solution 2.) UAN solution + Thio-Sul 3.) UAN solution + CaTs 4.) Treatments were sidedressed on June 6th and replicated 4 times. CaTs was applied at 5 and 10 gallons per acre. Corn Treatment 1.) UAN solution 2.) UAN Solution + Thio-Sul 3.) UAN Solution 4.) No-Till conditions, treatments were surface banded, 20 inches apart at the 4th leaf stage. Yields were not significantly different for treatments 3 and 4. CaTs was applied at 3.3 gallons per acre. CaTs improved cotton yields above the sulfur-only treatment, indicating a benefit to soluble calcium even on a slightly calcareous soil. On corn, CaTs significantly improved yield over the nitrogen-only treatment and was not significantly different from the full rate (150 lbs) of nitrogen. This was almost a 32% increase in NUE over the full rate of nitrogen. CaTs will blend with UAN solution in any ratio and can be surface applied or knifed into the soil.
