Research on cotton and corn has shown that application of CaTs (calcium
thiosulfate) with UAN solution can improve yields and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE).

Location: Cedar Falls, Iowa. No-Till conditions, treatments were surface banded, 20 inches apart at the 4th leaf stage.
Yields were not significantly different for treatments 3 and 4. CaTs was applied at 3.3 gallons per acre.
CaTs improved cotton yields above the sulfur-only treatment, indicating a
benefit to soluble calcium even on a slightly calcareous soil. On corn, CaTs
significantly improved yield over the nitrogen-only treatment and was not
significantly different from the full rate (150 lbs) of nitrogen. This was almost a
32% increase in NUE over the full rate of nitrogen. CaTs will blend with UAN
solution in any ratio and can be surface applied or knifed into the soil.
