What if I miss the first leaf pick-up in my

CITY OF LEAVENWORTH
2012 LEAF PICK-UP PROGRAM
What is the leaf collection program?
The City of Leavenworth will offer free leaf pick-up service to residents south of Spruce Street Monday,
November 5, 2012. This program will run through December, as long as the weather is conducive to picking
up leaves. Only 2 passes through the City are planned at this time. Residents north of Spruce need to utilize the
City Refuse Collection service (bag your leaves) or the Brush Disposal Site at 1803 S. Second St.
How will I know when crews will be in my neighborhood?
The crews will begin work at Eisenhower and work their way north through the city with one crew working
west of 10th and another crew working east of 10th, proceeding to Spruce. Once the crews have completed
the first run through the city, they will return to Eisenhower and continue a second run through the city, as
weather permits. The City will be divided into zones (see below) for the leaf program. The City will utilize
their website, www.lvks.org and Channel 2 to publicize where the crews are working and where they will be
working during the upcoming and current week.
Tips to placing leaves for pick-up:
 Residents should place the leaves as close to the street as possible, without covering the sidewalk. The
piles must be free of materials such as branches. Please do not rake leaves into the street. Please do
not block your mailbox (or your neighbor’s mailbox).
 To provide the leaf collection equipment better access to the streets, residents are encouraged to rake
leaves away from vehicles.
 Leaves will not be collected if they are placed in plastic bags or boxes. Residents choosing to bag their
leaves need to have the bags on the curb no more than 24 hours before their scheduled refuse pick-up
day. The bags of leaves will then be picked up with their trash by the Refuse workers as part of their
normal weekly service.
Can I take my leaves somewhere rather than participating in the curb-side program?
A free disposal service for leaves and grass for City of Leavenworth residents is available at the Brush Disposal
Site, 1803 South 2nd Street. The site is open Tuesday thru Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. until November 30,
2012. The clippings collected at the Brush Site are used for making compost. Compost is available free to
residents at the Brush Site.
What if I miss the first leaf pick-up in my neighborhood?
In order to complete two runs through the City, crews must continue through their zones as planned. We
cannot “come back by” once we’ve completed your zone. You can either bag up your leaves and take them to
the Brush Site for free, or wait until crews make their second run through your zone.
