that has a selfcontained GPS
and Iridium
Satellite
transceiver inside.
It sends the users
location to a
Google earth
interface.
Solar panels.
• Solar panels
are used for
power to
recharge
things like
satellite
phones or
GPS’s.
Iridium 9505 handset.
• This device can
receive short SMS
messages and send
them out as well.
Rucksack generator
• As you walk it charges up
a generator in your
backpack, it is a goods
use for human energy.
You can use it to charge
GPS devices or mobile
phones.
Knee hinge
Is a device the is
placed behind
your knee and
as you walk it
charges like a
battery. It can
be used to talk
on your mobile
phone.
• Sends a signal to a satellite search
• Then it goes to a Rescue coordination
• A helicopter is then sent out to find you.

•Technological
advances to bike
riding  things that can make your
bike a lot better.
Tyres
The tyres on your bike can
make a lot of difference. For
mountain bike riding you
need mountain bike tyres.
You can advance them to
thicker or more grip. There
are a lot of tyres that are
made for special ridings like
crack proof and bindy proof,
were as there used to just be
one kind of tyres.
Gears
• You can get very
complicated gears for
your bike, or easy
ones depends on
which sort of bike
your riding a road
bike or bmx. There
are a lot of gears
now, up too around
33!
Pedals
• Pedals are an
advancement on
your bike, some help
your feet stay on
when you are doing
long bike rides, they
have special grips.
Helmets
• Going from the flimsy, thin stack helmets to
the protected breathable helmets these days.
There has been a great improvement.
Seats
• The seats in the old days were really hard to
ride on, the seats these days are comfortable
and you can get them specially made. These
days they have a lot of padding inside of them.
Suspension
• Back in the day the bikes didn't have very
good suspension but now they have them
every were sometimes even on the handle
bars.
Mountain biking clothes
• There are some good
armours and thermo
clothes for riding. This is
and advancement
because some of them
help you go faster. There
never used to be any
special clothes for bike
riding.
Shoes.
• Some shoes have been
made with hooks on the
bottoms of them to click
into your pedals, it is an
advancement because it
helps keep your feet on
and you feel secure.
Speedometers and monitors
• On the latest bicycles they can have
speedometers to see your speed in a race and
special monitors to measure you heart rate or
mileage. There never used to be any of these
technologys.
Disabled bikes.
• There are bikes
for everybody
were as there
only used to be
one kind of
bikes. Anybody
can ride a bike.
Some of the
bikes lie down
and some are
chairs.
