Available Kin Society Positions – 2017-2018:
The Club executive will consist of ten members including
 The President (1)
 Vice President Academic (1)
 Vice President Social (2)
 Vice President Communications (1)
 Director of Media (1)
 Vice President Finance* (1)
 Vice-President Admin (1)
 The Spirit Coordinators/Welcome Week Coordinators**(2)
* The VP Finance position is hired, please submit a nomination form and
wait to hear back for an interview.
**Please note the Welcome Week Coordinator positions have already been
filled and will not be available for this election.
The President shall:
 Preside over all meetings of the club and shall be an ex-officio
member of all committees within the club.

Call all executive meetings and general meetings.
 Handle the day-to-day operations of the club.
 Ensure the club’s adherence to MSU policies.
 Must have a minimum of one year of experience in an executive
position on the KS or be going in to their fourth year of study and have
had one year of experience in any position on the KS
 Supervise all expenditures of funds.
 Have signing privileges to all cheques and financial documents.
 Address the KS Constitution once per term during KS meetings and
enforce said constitution.
 Act to ensure all undergraduate student functions of the KS are carried
out in a cohesive and professional manner.
 Settle all disputes that may arise within the KS providing they are
within the President’s jurisdiction.
 Serve as a member of the Department Council /or will appoint a
delegate of his/her choice for this position. Select a second delegate
from the executive to serve as the second member of the Department
Council
 Act as a liaison between the Department of Kinesiology and all
Kinesiology students.
 Act as a Welcome Week Coordinator for Kinesiology if the Spirit
Coordinator positions are not filled or oversee appointment of a
delegate position.





Act as VP Academic to fulfill the Peer Mentorship duties if said
position is not filled or oversee appointment of a delegate to the
position
Chair the Kinesiology Games committee, and organize the
appointment of the Kinesiology Games Captain(s) as described in the
bylaws.
Should a delegate for the Kinesiology Games committee be selected,
said individual will not have any voting rights on the Kinesiology
Society, but will be required to attend at the first meeting of every
month.
Shall meet at the start of each academic year in order to discuss event
plans with the Chair and Associate Chair of Kinesiology prior to
organizing any events.
Hold a weekly office hour in the KS Office.
The Vice-President Academic shall:
 Perform the duties of the President in the latter’s absence and shall
assist the President where required
 Perform such other duties that are from time to time assigned by
the President, executive or general membership
 Sit on the McMaster Student Union Academic Affairs Council as a
representative of Kinesiology
 Sit on the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee or assign a
replacement from the KS council.
 Be responsible for running a peer mentoring program for
Kinesiology Students. This may involve collaborating with the KS
Vice President External and McMaster Science Society (MSS)
Vice-President Academic depending on the operations of the MSS
 Responsible for implementing and maintaining the Kinesiology peer
mentorship program, beginning in the summer term, prior to the
academic year they are elected for.
 Ensure one Kin Career Night per year
 Ensure one “stress buster” per examination period
 Attend all scheduled weekly meetings.
 Hold a weekly office hour in the KS Office.
 Shall meet with the president at the start of each academic year in
order to discuss project ideas and formalize a year plan so that they
may relay it to the Undergraduate Chair
 Chair the Kinesiology Academic Advisory Committee and organize
the appointment of representatives as described in the bylaws.
 Be responsible for continuing the support and growth of the Kinnections Volunteer Program including maintaining a positive
communication/relationship with the already established
relationships[JB5] [JB6]

Be responsible for organizing and/or appointing a delegate for the
Kinesiology Tutor Program.
The Vice-President Social (2) shall:
 Perform the duties of the President in the latter's absence and shall
assist the President where required
 Perform such other duties that are from time to time assigned by the
President, executive or general membership.
 Organize the Clothing Sale and/or appoint a delegate of his/her choice
to this position.
 Act as a Welcome Week Planner for Kinesiology if the Spirit
Coordinator positions are not filled.
 Organize the semi-formal or appoint a delegate of choice for this
position.
 Oversee the organization and coordination of three (3) fundraising
activities for KS; at least two for charitable organization and at least
one for KS funding.
 Work with the Treasurer to determine when and/or if additional funds
for the KS are required and will organize fundraising events
accordingly.
 Attend all scheduled weekly meetings.
 Hold a weekly office hour in the KS Office.
 Shall meet with the president at the start of each academic year in
order to discuss project ideas and formalize a year plan so that they
may relay it to the Undergraduate Chair
 Shall be appointed as the Heimbecker Undergraduate Representative
or appoint a delegate of choice if the position is not filled by another
member.
The Vice-President Communications shall:
 Perform the duties of the President in the latter’s absence and shall
assist the President where required
 Perform such other duties that are from time to time assigned by
the President, executive or general membership
 Assist in all administrative responsibilities of the KS Council
 Promote all functions of the KS via email, posters, signs, all social
media and any other appropriate forms of publicity
 Maintain the KS bulletin board in IWC
 Work in conjunction with the Spirit Coordinators to promote general
KS spirit
 Hold a weekly office hour in the KS Office
 Work collaboratively with the McMaster Science Society
 Attend all meetings of the KS. Attendance in the McMaster
Science Society meetings whenever possible and/or needed





Act as a liaison to relay any news, events or information to each
party.
Shall work with the President to uphold and renew the
Science/Kinesiology Contract
Shall meet with the president at the start of each academic year in
order to discuss project ideas and formalize a year plan so that they
may relay it to the Undergraduate Chair
In the event of unplanned absence of the secretary, recording
minutes of the meeting shall be delegated to the VP External
In the event that the VP Communication is not available to perform
his/her duties, the VP External/Operations shall take over the
responsibilities for a period as determined by the Society
The Director of Media shall:
 Perform the duties of the President in the latter’s absence and shall
assist the President where required
 Perform such other duties that are from time to time assigned by
the President, executive or general membership
 Assist in all administrative responsibilities of the KS Council
 Responsible for the creation of any and all graphic material
including (but not limited to) posters, propaganda, Facebook/twitter
banners, Instagram posts, or any other picture-related content.
 Maintain the KS website (www.mcmasterkinesiology.com) on a
daily basis, updating the event calendar and adding all recent
endeavours.
 Be responsible for photography or the delegation thereof for
Welcome Week and other Kin Society events.
 Work in conjunction with the Spirit Coordinators to promote general
KS spirit
 Hold a weekly office hour in the KS Office
 Work collaboratively with the McMaster Science Society
 Attend all meetings of the KS. Attendance in the McMaster
Science Society meetings whenever possible and/or needed
 Act as a liaison to relay any news, events or information to each

 In the event that the VP External/Operations is not available to
perform his/her duties, the VP Communications shall take over the
responsibilities for a period as determined by the Society
The Vice-President Finance shall:
 Keep the account books of the club, shall arrange for the custody
and distribution of funds pursuant to the executive and general
membership's direction.
 Work with the President and Vice Presidents to complete an annual
budget before September 1st of the academic year and present it at
the first KS executive meeting
 Give a report about the finances of the club once per month and
have the books available upon the request of any member of the
club.
 Perform such other duties that are from time to time assigned by
the President, executive or general membership.
 Balance the books of the account for the KS Council.
 Make monthly deposits or more often when necessary.
 Prepare an income statement annually.
 Will have signing rights to all cheques and financial documents
along with being responsible for all account documentation.
 Maintain open lines of communication with the bank.
 Attend all scheduled weekly meetings.
 Hold a weekly office hour in the KS Office.
 Prepare a proposed budget for the McMaster Science Society
(MSS) and MSU Clubs at the beginning of each academic year.
 Submit a financial report to the McMaster Science Society in
January to show the distribution of funds allocated to the
Kinesiology Society from the MSS.
 Shall meet with the president at the start of each academic year in
order to discuss project ideas and formalize a year plan so that they
may relay it to the Undergraduate Chair
The VP Administration shall:
 Keep the minutes of all official meetings.
 Maintain the club’s membership list and archival documents
(minutes, event summaries, budgets, bylaws, etc.) including both a
paper, electronic (secure) and online copy
 Perform such other duties that are from time to time assigned by
the President, executive or general membership.
 Ensure all events organized under the KS nameplate follow the due
process of approval and documentation
 Oversee completion of event summaries in conjunction with the KS
Council and maintain an organized file of these summaries.
 Work with the President and KS members to prepare a public
agenda for every meeting.
 Attend all scheduled weekly meetings.
 Hold a weekly office hour in the KS Office.



may relay it to the Undergraduate Chair
Will attend any and all meetings along with the President when
meeting with faculty and other university staff, at the request of the
President.
