CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR SVCHC BOARD MEMBERS

Introduction to Seaway Valley Community Health Centre: The Seaway Valley Community
Health Centre (SVCHC) is a charitable, not-for-profit, community-governed organization created
to provide primary health care, health promotion and community development services to
Cornwall and area residents.
SVCHC provides services through an inter-professional team who work closely with all
community health and social services partners to link the medical and non-medical services
needed by clients. Services are designed to meet the specific needs and challenges facing our
clients and our community by focusing on the broader social determinants of health. Our target
populations for service delivery include low income individuals and families, seniors, new
Canadians and the general public who are without a family physician.
Board Composition and Responsibilities: The 12-member volunteer board is comprised of
community agency representatives, client representatives and skills-based representatives,
(including legal, accounting, human resource management, community health and social
services, municipal, education and/or business sectors). The role of a Board is governance and
organization oversight, strategic planning, policy setting and overall fiduciary accountability.
The Board meets monthly from September to June, for 1.5 to 2.0 hours, including an Annual
General Meeting. Board positions are elected for one or two-year terms and may be re-elected up
to a maximum of 6 consecutive years.
Vacancies: SVCHC is currently recruiting for the following Board positions:
Community Health or Social Service Agency representatives.

Qualifications:
1) Have a passion for volunteering to improve the health and well-being of our clients and
the community.
2) General understanding of the mandate of a Community Health Centre and the Health
Care system
3) Board Governance experience is considered an asset.
4) General understanding of budgeting and finance principles.
5) Able to commit a minimum 2 hours a month to Board meetings and Board related work.
The SVCHC Board Nominations Committee is seeking qualified candidates to join the Board of
Directors for terms beginning in June 2017. Interested candidates are invited to submit a cover
letter and resume by May 1st, 2017 to the attention of Debbie St John-de Wit, Secretary of the
Board.
