Organizer-in-Training Leadership Program
Position Title: Organizers-In-Training Program Coordinator
Position Type: Temporary, Full-time (approx. 40hrs / week, some weekends / evenings
required)
Compensation: $9,600 salaried, paid every 2 weeks
Benefits: Health insurance effective after 30 days.

Program Overview
OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon is seeking a Coordinator for our Organizers-in-Training (OiT)
program for Summer 2016. OiT is a dynamic leadership development program that seeks to cultivate the
next generation of environmental justice organizers, advocates and leaders. The program grounds
participants in the racial, social and environmental justice movement, combining trainings and workshops
with grassroots field experience. Strong candidates with campaign, organizing and/or advocacy
experience, including strong management and facilitation skills, with an understanding of racial, social
and environmental justice and a commitment to grassroots, multiracial and intergenerational organizing.
Coordination of this program is a non-exempt full-time job, salary negotiable depending on experience,
with transit and health benefits. The program runs for ten (10) weeks, from June 27th to September 2nd.
Some evening and weekends are required.
Program Goals:
● Teach principles of environmental, racial, economic and social justice to cohort of 4-6 individuals
● Provide grassroots community organizing experience and skills-building
● Create personal and professional leadership development opportunities
● Support OPAL campaigns and programs
Program Activities and Responsibilities:
● Curriculum implementation and development
● Supervision of cohort’s grassroot organizing and field experience

Desired Qualifications:
● Demonstrated experience in grassroots and/or campaign organizing
● Cultural competency a must; Bilingual ability strongly preferred
● Experience supervising or managing staff, volunteers and/or interns
● Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
