WIN, a nonpartisan organization established to engage, encourage and endorse women in public office, is a driving force in supporting women in local office. Today’s announcement affirms WIN’s mission to gain parity in elected officials. “We are thrilled that so many highly qualified women are running this year,” said WIN President Mary Nell Bryan. "Nashville is blessed with a terrific bench of candidates. It is WIN's mission and our honor to support some of these outstanding women as part of the movement to increase the number of qualified women holding public office.” To receive an endorsement, women seeking local office may submit an application to be reviewed by the WIN selection committee. Endorsements are based on items in the application questionnaire, including the candidate’s background, objectives, expertise and experience, as well as campaign, financial and messaging strategies. “Endorsement is an important aspect of our mission as an organization,” said WIN Executive Director Hattie DeWalt. “We care about educating the voting public as well as endorsing qualified female candidates, and that is what gives our endorsement a unique heft.” Information about the five endorsees is included at the bottom of this release.
