Scout Law
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal,
helpful, friendly, courteous, kind,
obedient (A scout follows the
rules of his family, school and
troop; He obeys the rules of his
community and country. If he
thinks these rules and laws are
unfair he tries to change them in
an orderly manner rather than in
a disorderly way), cheerful,

Our Annual Planning meeting is coming up, where we decide where
to camp for the following year. The meeting is in August but please get your
ideas together early and let your patrol leader know where you would like
to go. Try to offer new places and remember your parents may be on a
budget, so try to keep your ideas in country.
Past Events
Recap June 3rd Scoutfest 2012 with the Joliet Slammers
at the Silver Cross Field
This event has proven itself to be fun time and time again,
even though the score was not in our favor at all, 5 to 13
against the Washington Wild Things. With the temperature
being 8o degrees it seemed hot then and now it would be a
welcome relief.
Recap June 8th to 10th Scouting 102 at McKinley Woods
This event was attended by 16 boys and 5 adults and was a
continuation of Scouting 101.
Recap June 15th to 23rd High
Adventure to the Northern Tier
Lets talk weather: it rained almost
every day at some point for this
group of portaging friends. Portaging
is when you have to carry your
canoe and gear from one body of
water to another over a land mass.
This group of high adventure scouts
was able to cover 55 miles of water in
five days. Even though the weather was
not ideal everyone who went is ready to
go back again.
Recap June 24th to 30th Camp Lowden Summer Camp
The motor coach to camp was a good idea; the boys watched a movie on the way there and
back and were relatively quiet. Let’s continue the talk about weather: hot, hot and even hotter.
What tops of a summer camp, a severe thunderstorm where the scouts had to go seek shelter.
The Camp Director said that in his 31 years as director (wow) he has never had to seek shelter
twice in one night. With extreme heat comes unique relief, the Director bought a few plastic
traps and hoses and made their own unique water slide. There were 30 boys and 11 adults that
went on this summer camp. I hope everyone was able to see Mr. McCafferty’s slide show of
this event. The popular items of summer camp were hammocks that were placed all over or
site, I believe we bought out the camp store of inventory. One of the proudest things about
summer camp was that our troop of 30 boys earned 95 merit badges. Here is a list of merit
badges earned and by whom.
