President’s Report – Season 2015/16 It is with great pleasure that I present the following report regarding the 2015/16 season to the members, players and supporters of Rupertswood Cricket Club. 24th Annual General Meeting The 24th Annual General Meeting was held on 15th July 2015 with the following members being elected onto the committee thereafter. President: Peter Kavanagh Vice-President: Jamie Rolfe Treasurer: Trevor Harris Secretary: Warren Hall Junior Operations Coordinators: Andrew White & Peter Cooke General Committee: Luke Reddan Communications Manager: David Metheringham Social Committee: Chris Ryan I would personally like to thank each and every committee member for their commitment as I do to anyone else that helped out in anyway throughout what was a very successful 2015/16 season for our club. Following a very successful Melbourne cup Calcutta the club came together to celebrate 25 years and induct the first 12 members into our hall of fame. John Jordan, Leighton Collins, David Fox, Michael Lane, Warren Hall, Kevin Barker, Matthew O’Callaghan, Joshua Powell, Brendan Buckley, Terry Inglis, Chris Ryan & John Lane. Congratulations to all members. Thank you to Mark Brockhus & Salesian College for allowing RCC to hold the event in such a magnificent venue, I would also like to thank Jason Keays & staff for the beautiful meal. Our social events throughout the season would not have eventuated and been so successful without the efforts of Chris Ryan. Congratulations Chris for yours and the efforts of the many helpers you had throughout the season. Pink Stumps day High tea was this year held in that same magnificent venue as our 25 year dinner for the first time, we as a club are very proud to support the McGrath Foundation for placement of breast cancer care Nurses around Australia. Life member Wayne Withers and his wife Maree and Debbie & Peter Garner were yet again the driving force in ensuring that the day was a great success, this is an annual event that all involved are very proud of. This year over $5000 was raised. We sincerely thank the following people who supported and contributed to the running of this year’s event. Wayne and Maree Withers, Debbie and Peter Garner, Cara Cummings, Erin McMahon (Carey), Michael Carey, Kate Shoesmith, Steve and Rachel Dale, Keith Dale, Doug Steele, Jenny and Gerald Carland, Peter & Pauline Tabone, Mick & Vanessa Howell, Trevor Harris, Luke Reddan, Warren Hall, Mick Riley, Brooke Batchelor, David Metheringham & Gary Plummer. My apologies to anyone that I have not mentioned. A special thank you to Denise Robertson for being our guest speaker on the day. A big thank you also to the 50 plus people and local business’s that donated items for this special event. It is also with regret to announce that Maree & Debbie have advised that they will no longer be looking after the food preparation for the day, I can understand their reasons given the hours they give in the days leading up to as well as the 12 or so hours on the day. Our loss is their gain as they will now be able to enjoy the day without worrying about who is going to be preparing the magnificent food that they have presented each year. Sponsors and Supporters of RCC Our Sponsor Coordinator Michael Riley again worked tirelessly throughout the season communicating with sponsors ensuring that they were all kept up to date with club activities. In the year of celebrating 25 years we were blessed to have yet again record numbers of local businesses willing to support our great club. Document1 Page 2 of 12 Special thanks to all sponsors: • VICS Food and Wine-Vic Scerri • Royal Hotel Sunbury • Intersport Sunbury-(Peter and Pauline Tabone) • Withers Civil (Wayne Withers) • O’Shanassy Meats and Poultry (Matthew and Alison Ayers) • McDonalds Sunbury, Watergardens & Gisborne. • Telstra Sunbury • The Chook Pen • Core flex Just like Maree & Debbie, Mick has also advised that due to work and personal commitments he will not be able to continue as our sponsor coordinator, I’m sure I speak for the whole club in thanking Mick for the extraordinary job he has done over many years in various roles running and promoting our great club. Thank you to Sean Morganti for yet again managing the Thursday evening meals supplied by The Chook Pen and regularly assisting with bar serving. Finally we can never forget the people that made sure that we were all kept refreshed with a well-stocked bar. It’s not that we as a club promote alcohol but its reality that our biggest financial gain each year is our ability to run a successful bar and for that we can thank Brooke Batchelor & Pauline Peachey and the many others that assisted throughout the season. Senior Teams 2015/16 Season has by far been the most successful since the 08/09 season when we won 3 Premierships in C, F & G grades. . Our 2015/16 B grade winning this year’s final so convincingly is the ultimate way of finishing off the season which now sees our club return to play McIntyre Cup for the first time since the 2012/13 season. Congratulations to all players that played in that side throughout the season, each and every one of you deserves to feel party of that winning side. Going on the past few years B grade winners we as a club will be very competitive with our current list of players next season playing McIntyre cup. Document1 Page 3 of 12 Our 5th with a great bunch of both young and old players also won in convincing style. It was so pleasing to see all members of our club celebrated the wins including our 2nds Boys despite their disappointment in their loss earlier that day. Our 2nd side mostly consists of young players that hopefully will be playing with Rupertswood for many years, I’m sure they would have learnt so much from their loss? The 4th semi-final loss was disappointing but yet again there would have been some lessons learnt. Unfortunately you can’t expect everything to go perfectly so we had to have one side that missed out but throughout the season our 3rd had some outstanding individual performances. With teams being so successful it also brings individual success. Batting we had 14 centuries, Kyahl Anderson 3 centuries with a highest score of 172 no. Paul Joyce 2 centuries & Daniel Giouzelis making his maiden century just to name a few. Bowling: 6 bowlers with 5 or more wickets in an inning Brandon Webber the best with 6/26 At association levels our F grade was very successful, John O’Brien won the bowling award with 21 wickets @ 9.38 and Darryne Lynch champion player. Congratulations to all players. Team & individual success could not be achieved without strong leadership. I would like to thank our Captains Mick Howell, Darryne Lynch, Aaron Batchelor & Justin Batchelor for the way they managed their sides this season. To Brett Hudd I cannot thank enough for his support to me and his personal one on one communication with our coach, captains and all players. I’m sure that everyone now appreciates Brett’s ability to make correct and at time challenging decisions which in the end were all correct. Our captain/ Coach John Lane, I’m sure that I am not the only one that would be wanting to thank in a similar way as there is no way that we as a club could be where we are today without the great leadership he has given over many years. Document1 Page 4 of 12 Unfortunately for now John’s job is done as our senior coach so he can now enjoy playing wherever selected and hopefully directing his efforts at developing our junior sides for many years. Congratulations John, you are now a winning Captain Coach, a position that not many people achieve in life. I’m sure I speak for all players in sincerely thanking our regular helpers with scoring, afternoon tea set up etc. our afternoon teas have yet again been superb which is a credit to our players and those that assisted, in particular, David Metheringham, Christine Hall, Brett Hudd, Brooke Batchelor & Pauline Peachey. My apologies to the many others that I have not mentioned. Junior Teams Our juniors this season have for the first time in many years been managed with perfection under the guidance of 2 very capable people. Andrew White & Peter Cooke, their ability to work together and ensuring that coaches and players enjoyed their cricket was outstanding. Andrew also coached one of the U14’s sides and was able to direct them to the final which was a reflection on how he & Peter managed all junior sides. I cannot thank both Andrew & Peter enough for their efforts this season and hope that both will be back again next season in some form of management. To Andrew, Sunbury Bus lines and the parents that assisted in taking around 50 boys to watch Australia V India in a one dayer well done on such a successful day. We have got some very talented juniors playing at our club, some of whom also played seniors this season. Two outstanding individual performances were the Hat Tricks bowled by Sonny Phelan U12’s & James Fox U14’s. Rupertswood were again well represented in the junior ranks of the GDCA with six teams in total, 2x U/16’s, 2x U/14 1xU/12 and 1xU/11. The support from parents and family members of a Saturday morning and at training was sensational, this support is comforting knowing that our junior coaches were being assisted by those that are embracing our ethos and values in participation, sportsmanship and improvement. The importance of this for our long term future cannot be underestimated. Document1 Page 5 of 12 Thank you to Mick & Vanessa Howell for their outstanding efforts yet again in bringing new players and families together during the Friday nights U/11 games. To see so many families socializing on the boundary on a Friday night while their sons played cricket was very encouraging. Thank you to Brendan Dennis for his terrific work with our U/12 group. This was Brendan’s first time coaching but was instructional and allowing maximum participation and enjoyment with his young players whilst also encouraging parental involvement which resulted in a very enjoyable season by everyone involved. Terry Crotty yet again coached this season looking after the U 14 Gold side, well done Terry yet again another great year with the boys. Thank you to Andrew White for his commitment and devotion not only in the coordinators role but also in coaching the U/14 Blue side which had great success in playing off in the final. Whilst most of the teams may not have gained the results in terms of wins they desired, the enthusiasm and great sportsmanship of the players is a credit to their coaching. Thank you to Peter Travers and Lachlan McLean for their efforts with our U16 sides. Lachlan’s side finished fourth and unfortunately lost the semifinal. It was a very pleasing being able to watch the older boys play of a Saturday morning knowing that most of them would be out there again in the afternoon playing seniors. A special thank you to the parents of those players that will be leaving, your support is as much appreciated by our club as it is by your sons. Like your sons you are always welcome to call in and so hello whenever in the area. Milo In2 Cricket Thank you to Jayden Beever for the excellent co-ordination of Milo Cricket and closely supported by Brooke Batchelor Thank you again to the parents and players who gave their time assisting Jayden to ensure the young participants enjoyed playing cricket. Document1 Page 6 of 12 Rector’s XI v President’s XI The eight successive Rector’s v President’s social match was held at Rupertswood and yet again greatly supported with some new faces combined with the presence of some past stalwarts of the club involved. Fr Peter Monaghan made the trip across town again in his endeavor to gain the upper hand on the trophy after last year’s tie and the 3 wins each before. Congratulations to Fr Pete and his side on winning this season’s match. It’s now 4-3 Rectors favor. Thank you to Fr Pete and those that assisted in what was another successful day. Presentation Events Our Senior and Junior Presentation events were held on the 18rd March and 1st April respectively and rightfully acknowledged the efforts of players, coaches, volunteers and supporters of the RCC both at club and GDCA representative level. Congratulations to all award winners on your achievements. A special acknowledgement to our Best Club Person Darryne Lynch The Best Club Person award is given annually to a person/s who has provided outstanding volunteer services to the club during the season. Other than the President, any member of the club is eligible to win the award being either a player or non-player, associated with juniors or seniors, committee member or supporter, etc. The award is voted on by committee members and club captains. Congratulations also to Justin Batchelor for being the 13th player to be inducted into the Rupertswood Cricket Club Hall of Fame. Well deserved. Salesian College Rupertswood The Rupertswood Cricket Club expresses its gratitude to Principal, Mark Brockhus and Salesian College Rupertswood for the privileged use of the facilities at the historic “Birthplace of the Ashes”. Document1 Page 7 of 12 Conclusion I am very proud of the efforts of all players and members throughout what was a very successful season, On behalf of all I would again like to thank John Lane for his ability to get the best out of all players when needed. I want again to thank my fellow committee members for their support and efforts during the past season. We are one of the largest clubs in the association and for us to stay successful and keep up with the times we will require the assistance of more members both on and off field. I’m sure there are many people that have assisted me personally and the club as a whole that I haven’t thanked, I do apologies but do appreciate your efforts.
