Term 1 – Nursery Rhymes: Hickory, Dickory Dock
Target Language:
 Hello; clock; mouse; one; two; three; four; goodbye.
 Introduce classroom routine and encourage children to be attentive.
Introduction to Topic:
Circle Time: Register and Songs
Theme Introduction: The topic for today will be the nursery rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock.
Hold up the clock (Attachment 1) and show it to the children. Ask if anyone knows what this is.
Hold the clock in one hand and with the other hand make the mouse (Attachment 1) run up your arm and over
the clock. Act surprised and repeat the action a couple of times. See if anyone can guess “mouse”.
Rhyme: Attachment 2 Say “I know a song about a clock and a mouse – it’s called “Hickory Dickory Dock”.

Main Activity:
Craft 1 – Mouse Craft Using the template (Attachment 3) provided ask children and caregivers to sponge paint
the mouse (have a variety of colours – blue, grey, brown and pink). Add big googly eyes, raffia or black paper
whiskers and a crepe paper tail or curled pipe cleaner.
Craft 2 – Clock Craft: Choose a craft suitable for you students. Sample pictures attached to the lesson.
(Attachment 4) or you can choose to do the clock craft in the “Extension for 2+yrs” for your older students to
revise numbers.
Sensory Play:
Put materials with different textures in a big tray and let the students touch and explore. For example: Soft cotton
wool, cellophane, strips of cello tape, tissue paper, straws, chop sticks, Shiny paper etc.
Movement Activity/Game:
Tick Tock rhyme
Tick tock, tick tock (stand with legs apart and arms out and rock from side to side)
I’m a little cuckoo clock
Tick tock, tick tock
Now I’m striking 4 o’clock! (jump up or clap hands four times)
Choose a few different numbers.
If there is time, sing some other well-known songs (see Song Book) or use a music CD for some group dancing
to favourite songs. E.g Hot Potatoes / Dingly Dangly Scarecrow…

Extension Activity for 2+yrs:
Craft 2 – Clock craft Create your own clock with a paper plate and foamy number stickers. Sample picture
attached. (Attachment 5) You can use number/shape stickers for this craft. Can stick mouse to clock if you
want.
To close…
Story: Hickory Dickory Dock by Charles Reasoner
Tell the class it’s nearly time to go home and say your farewells …. until next week. Have the students say
goodbye to you, the EA and one another.
Call students up to distribute completed work and for the child to return their badge.
