A Free Service to Host Your Essays & Other
Components of Your Professional Portfolio

Getting Started
 In order to link full essays from your professional portfolio
for free, you can use www.linkedin.com.
 Linked-In allows people to host their own webpage-much
like Facebook, but for more professional reasons (posting
experience, resumes, essays, etc.).
 To get started, go to www.linkedin.com and “Join LinkedIn
Today.”
 The Home Page
will look like the
one to the right.
Your Webpage
 Once you have joined, make sure the “Edit My Profile”
tab is selected. You can add your major(s), add a picture
of yourself and slowly complete your online professional
profile.
Adding Your Essays
 Now you are ready to add your full essays to Linked-In.
 First, make sure you have selected the “Edit My
Profile” tab, then scroll down on your webpage until
you find “Add Applications.”
 Click on
“Add Application.”
 This will direct you to the applications page. Now you
want to click on the Box.net Files application.
Adding Your Essays
 You will be directed to the Box.net download page.
Click on “Add Application” in the bottom right hand
corner.
 Box.net will ask you to create a username and
password for their website (Do not worry, everything is
safe and confidential).
 Once you have completed that, return to
“Edit My Profile” and
the Box.net application will
be on your webpage.
Adding Your Essays
 From here, you can add folders by clicking on the
“menu” button under the Box.net application and sort
your essays in folders by class, major/minor, interest,
etc.
 As you can see,
I just lumped all
my essays into
one big “Essay”
folder-except my
resume.
Adding Your Essays
 Now you have your folders ready, you can upload all
the essays that you want.
 Simply click on the folder you want your essay in, click
“Menu,” then “Upload.”
 Browse your
computer files and
find the essay(s)
you want to upload.
 The essay(s) you select will then appear in Profile
under the Box.net application.
Linking Your Essays
 Your essays are now on your Linked-In page, now you
can link them to your Professional Portfolio
PowerPoint.
 Bring your cursor over the essay you want to link and a
small drop down arrow will appear in the upper right
hand corner of the essay.
 Click the drop down
arrow and select
“Get Web Link.”
 Then select “Copy” in
dialogue box the appears.
Linking Your Essays
 Clicking “Get Web Link” then “Copy” will give your
essay its own unique web link.
 After you have clicked “Get Web Link” and “Copy” go
to the slide in your Professional Portfolio that
corresponds to that essay-simply right click and select
“paste.” Your unique essay link will now appear in that
slide.
 You should only have an abstract of the essay in each
essay slide, but below it you can now link the full essay
for further reading if necessary.
Final Product
 Your final product may looking something like the
slide to the right. This is my
mission statement slide from
my professional portfolio. I
have my Abstract.
 And below the abstract I
have my Web Link
to the full essay.
 ***The hyperlink will only work if you are viewing the
slide show and not just editing it. Otherwise you will
need to copy and paste the link into a web browser.
