White vinegar & baking soda can fix this. This is a two step process. Vinegar contains acetic acid that breaks down mineral deposits and dissolves built up detergent. Baking soda is alkali, it breaks down grease and neutralizes odor. Do the 2 washes & your cloths will be fresh & absorbent again. Wash #1: Load cloths loosely, use long wash cycle, use hottest water (may even add a tea kettle of boiling water) Add 2cups vinegar (no soap) for a large load. Run cycle leave in machine. Wash # 2: Fill machine with more hot water, add 1cup baking soda, (no soap) run long cycle again. Dry: Dry completely (hang outside or in dryer) Now smell them, if they are not fabulously clean, repeat above.
