 Beginning 2017-2018, students will be given a head set
with a microphone.
 TEA will require students to be a specific distance apart

Find 2017 TELPAS Calibration Roster to identify certified
raters on your campus.
Look at your current LEP students. Who are their teachers?
New Teachers to campus- ask for certificates
Identify new raters who will rate students.
Keep in mind special circumstances… ex. Maternity leave
Make a master roster of LEP students and assigned raters

New Rater Training (Online Basic Training)








Opens January 18
Individual Basis. Does not need to be monitored.
Campuses will show a recorded webinar. Assessment will provide security/confidentially training and Mary
Martin will provide “Tips and Tricks”
New Raters will sign oath
New Raters will create an account in TELPAS Training Center
New Rater will view Online Basic Training. This can be done in multiple settings.
It is our understanding that a certificate will be available for the Rater to print after completion.
New users will enter a keyword to create a new user profile. ( keyword is training2017)
Things to Think About:
• How will New Raters complete the Online Basic
Training?
• How will you collect certificates?
• Will you have raters print or email them?
• When is your campus deadline?

Raters will sign an oath
Raters will create an account in TELPAS Training Center
Calibration must be completed in monitored setting.
If he/she fails Set 1, they will take Set 2 during this day.
Calibration is passcode protected. (separate passcode for set 2)
Contact Jan Cleere for passcode.
Raters will sign Calibration Roster
Things to Think About:
• Where will you have the Calibration (lab, classroom,
etc.)
• How will you collect certificates? Will you have
raters print or email them?
• How will you address raters who fail set 1?

Store writing collections in the secured

Things to Think About:
• When will you talk with teachers about the writing
collection criteria?
• How will teachers submit their writing samples?
• When is your campus deadline for turning in
collection?
• How will you ensure that all students have a writing
collection?

All campuses will administer the TELPAS Online Reading the week before Spring
Break.
March 6-9
Headphones are not required for this assessment
Campuses will create test sessions for students before administration (Deadline:
March 2)

TELPAS Holistic Rating: March 20- 31

Raters can begin to rate their students March 20-24
During rating process, TEA requires specific forms to be
completed. (TELPAS Rating Roster, TELPAS Writing
Coversheet)
Things to Think About:
• Where will your teachers officially rate students?
• How will you give the rating rosters to your raters
to complete?
• Who will enter the rating information in Pearson

Teacher Collaboration
Collaboration doesn’t have to be a
formal meeting. Email/casual
conversation will suffice to gain insight
on the student’s proficiency

Entering Holistic Rating
Begins March 20- 23 completed by March 24th
 Campus will create Holistic Rating Test Sessions
 Last year, CTC’s had to print off “Test Tickets” and enter
ratings student by student.
 This year, Pearson is going back to the “old way”.
 You will enter ratings for all students in the group on
one screen.


Things to think about..
Collection of Raters for future years. It would be nice to
email campuses in November a list of teachers are
certified raters?
 Technology…. What needs will you have, we encourage
Chromebooks.

