Year 1/2 Topic for Spring Brilliant Britain!

History:
We will be learning how transport has
changed over time, and is still changing and
developing. We will begin to develop an
understanding of the chronology of
transport inventions and will focus in depth
on the history of flight and space travel.
Music:
In Music, we will be listening to and
discussing The Planets Suite by Gustav
Holst, before creating our own space
music, using a range of tuned and untuned instruments.
Maths:
In maths our key focus is continuing to
secure our number knowledge.

Science:
This term we will be finding out facts about the sun
and be observing its apparent movement across the
sky. Weather permitting, we will investigate how
shadows change throughout the day, as well as
discover how day length changes throughout the
seasons. We will also learn about the weather
associated with each season and the changes this
brings.

PE/Dance:
Indoor PE- Dance
Indoor PE-Gymnastics
PSHE:
We will be learning about managing risk and building on our
understanding of the people we can turn to for help, support and
reassurance. We will learn about the times we may need to give personal
information and learn about how to get help in an emergency situation.
Art:
In Art, we will be learning about a range of famous artists. We will also
be developing our own techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line,
shape, form and space.
Computing:
With Mrs Bowen, the children will be
introduced to algorithms and simple
programming, using the context of
programming physical and virtual toys
to perform specific actions
RE:
In RE, we will be looking at religion
through art and poetry.
Literacy:
In Literacy, we will continue to secure and develop our
understanding of punctuation, and the children will be
introduced to the use of exclamation marks and question
marks. We will be developing our sentence skills, learning
to use adverbs and adjectives confidently to add more
detail to our writing. We will also begin to learn the joins
and letter formation required for cursive writing.
