Our Culture Segment Series
“Our Culture” Series aims to provide insight to the daily lives of young people
here in Australia. We are using this series as a means of bringing to light the
different ways of living and thinking in the hope that it will enlighten and expand
the minds of those who live a little differently. As a Multicultural society
understanding that we are all different is an important part of ensuring that we
can co- exist in a peaceful and pleasant manner. This series aims to define what
really is different about the various cultures and what isn’t so different.
By educating in an informative and interesting format it is our intention to help
people learn a little more about where they live and who they are living with.
Intended to cater to a wide variety of people from various backgrounds, this
series takes a look at how language, family, social life, etiquette, cuisine, lifestyle,
marriage, religion, mythology, health/ medicine and tradition all partake in the
defining of a culture.
Segment one: Language
A look into how language impacts daily life for those who speak more than one.
Covering slang and formalities involved with the various dialects of some
languages. We look at the importance of understanding and communication.
Segment two: Family and social aspects
Stepping into family life we venture into family structure and how the
relationships between these members shape and change as individuals grow. We
also see how different cultural backgrounds influence up bringing.
Segment three: Etiquette and Manners
For anyone who may have had an unusual encounter in another country or with
a person of different ethnicity we take a look at the etiquette and manners that
are unique to certain cultures. From how to address your boss to how to speak
with friends and strangers we take you through it.
Segment four: Cuisine
Experiment with your palette as we discover how, where and why some foods
have come to be and what makes them so unique. We look at how these foods
have changed and developed over the years and what makes eating it such a
cultural experience.
Segment five: Lifestyle- Those Rites of Passage
Here we take a look at what its like to grow up and be grown up. School,
University, socialising in and out of work environments, we ask and tell what it is
like to enter and exit certain Rites of passage and what it means to a different
culture.
Segment six: Marriage
Exploring the love we learn about what is important to marriage in another
culture. From rituals and types of ceremonies to moving in and out with the
families. We see what life is like for both bride and groom before, during and
after.
Segment seven: Religion
This segment explores religion; it’s place and importance within culture. We see
what religions play important roles in which cultures and where it plays part in
daily life.
Segment eight: Mythology
Some cultures have become famous for their stories and tales of mythology.
Witches, sea monsters, plagues are all important pieces to colourful and
entertaining history.
Segment nine: Health and Medicine
There are cultures on our planet that have survived centuries. Here we take a
look into what has kept these cultures and its people alive and thriving.
Segment ten: Festivals, Events and Traditions
All the fun stuff happens right here! Taking a look at what events make it on to
the calendar every year, which ones have done so for centuries and how they
have changed if at all.
