FALL LEAF PICKUP As a free service to its citizens, the City of Maplewood provides curbside leaf vacuuming. Leaves not vacuumed on the November schedule will be vacuumed on Saturdays or during the second round. Crews make a second pass through the entire city starting on Monday after Thanksgiving. Residents may rake leaves to the tree lawn (between the sidewalk and curb) for vacuum removal by the Public Works Department. Please do not rake leaves into the street. This causes clogged storm sewers. Crews will not vacuum leaves on rainy days because the wet leaves clog the machines. Also, the public works crew will not pick up leaf piles that are mixed with debris. These foreign objects damage the leaf machine. Leaves will not be vacuumed after December 31st. After that date, leaves must be bagged and marked with an Allied Waste tag, and set out for the regular Wednesday collection. Allied Waste tags can be purchased at City Hall, the Public Library and at Scheidt True Value Hardware, 7320 Manchester Avenue. If you have any questions about the leaf vacuuming program, feel free to contact the Public Works Department at 645-3600. Wishing you and yours a very happy and safe holiday season.
