Dear Steppers:
We are writing to inform you about a great opportunity for your Step Team. The National
Pan-Hellenic Council of Eastern Kentucky University would like to invite you to
participate in the exhibition round of the 2012 Spring Step Show. This event is going to
be held on Saturday March 31st, 2012. To be eligible to perform and compete in the
exhibition round, a team must submit an application by the dead line of January 31st,
2012.
The exhibition round will be open to teams not competing for the $1,000 prize. The first
place team in the exhibition round will receive a first place award (plaque or trophy to be
determined). Each group must have a minimum of 3 performers (not including show
technicians).
We have enclosed one registration packet for your team. We ask that you announce this
opportunity in your next meeting or practice, via email, or any other form of
communication that you use among your team. We greatly appreciate your assistance
and support.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1.
NO EXCESSIVE PROFANITY OR OBSCENE LANGUAGE IS TO BE USED DURING THE STEP SHOW.
IT WILL RESULT IN A FIVE POINT DEDUCTION, FOR EACH OCCURRENCE, IF JUDGES DEEM
NECCESSARY.
2.
ALL PARTICIPATING TEAMS MUST SUMBIT THEIR COMPLETED APPLICATION PACKETS BY
JANUARY 31ST, 2012.
3.
ALL TEAMS & MEMBERS MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE AT LEAST 2 HOURS PRIOR TO THE START OF
THE SHOW. FAILURE TO CHECK-IN WILL RESULT IN A TEN POINT DEDUCTION FROM EACH
JUDGE. AFTER CHECK-IN, WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO DESIGNATE A DRESSING SPACE, A
REHEARSAL TIME SLOT, AND A GUIDE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE BEFORE THE SHOW.
4.
EACH STEP TEAM MUST CONSIST OF A MINIMUM OF THREE PERFORMERS AND NO MORE THAN
TWO SHOW TECHNICIANS. ALL PERFORMERS AND TECHNICIANS MUST SIGN-IN ON THE DAY OF
THE SHOW AND PROVIDE A VALID PHOTO I.D. WITHOUT PROPER I.D., ADMITTANCE WILL BE
PROHIBITED.

6.
EACH STEP TEAM WILL BE GIVEN THREE MINUTES TO ASSEMBLE ANY PROPS AND SET THE
STAGE FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE. YOUR PERFORMANCE SHOULD BE AT LEAST EIGHT
MINUTES, BUT NO LONGER THAN 15 MINUTES. YOUR TIME WILL START AS SOON AS THE FIRST
PERFORMER STEPS ON STAGE OR AS SOON AS THE INTRODUCTION/MUSIC STARTS TO PLAY.
7.
IF YOUR STEP PERFORMANCE IS SHORTER THAN EIGHT MINUTES OR EXCEEDS THE MAXIMUM
TIME ALLOWED, IT WILL RESULT IN A FIVE POINT DEDUCTION FROM EACH JUDGE PER SECOND
OVER THE LIMIT.
8.
THE SCORING CRITERIA WILL BE APPEARANCE, PRECISION, AND DIFFICULTY OF STEP, CROWD
APPEAL, AND OVERALL PERFORMANCE. EACH JUDGE WILL SCORE A MAXIMUM OF TEN POINTS
IN EACH AREA FOR A TOTAL OF FIFTY POINTS.
NOTE: PRIOR TO THE PERFORMANCE, STEP TEAMS WILL BE SENT CONFIRMATION ALONG WITH
A SCORE SHEET TO ALLOW TEAMS TO KNOW WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED FROM THEM PRIOR TO
AND DURING THE STEP SHOW.
9.
AN OUTLINE OF STEP SHOW PERFORMANCE, MUSIC, AND DESCRIPTION OF ATTIRE MUST BE
SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. IF ANY OF THESE ITEMS ARE FOUND TO BE OFFENSIVE
OR REPETITIVE BY THE STEP SHOW CHAIR, YOUR ORGANIZATION WILL BE IMMEDIATELY
NOTIFIED AND GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE APPROPRIATE CHANGES. THIS
INFORMATION IS REQUESTED TO ENSURE THAT ATTIRE, MUSIC, OR PERFORMANCES WILL NOT
BE OFFENSIVE OR REPETITIVE. IF THERE ARE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR PERFORMANCE, MUSIC,
OR ATTIRE AFTER YOUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN MAILED, PLEASE INFORM THE STEP SHOW
CHAIR TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE EVENT.
10. ALL PROPS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE STAGE AT THE CONCLUSION OF YOUR
PERFORMANCE. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN AN OVERALL DEDUCTION OF FIVE
PIONTS. YOUR STEP TEAM WILL BE CHARGED FOR ANY DAMAGE TO THE STAGE OR BACKSTAGE
AREA. THERE WILL BE NO SPECIAL LIGHTING OR SPOTLIGHTS AVAILABLE. FOG MACHINES ARE
NOT PERMITTED.
11. EACH STEP TEAM MUST HAVE AN ASSIGNED COORDINATOR THAT WILL KEEP IN CONSTANT
CONTACT WITH THE STEP SHOW CHAIR AND PROVIDE NOTIFICATION OF ANY CHANGES TO
THEIR SHOW.
12. THE ONLY PERSONS WHO WILL NOT BE CHARGED ADMISSION TO THE STEP SHOW ARE THE
PERSONS WHO ARE LISTED ON THE APPLICATION AND ARE PERFORMING AS PART OF THE
STEP TEAM. EACH STEP TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED TO HAVE NO MORE THAN TWO SHOW
TECHNICIANS AND COACH WHO WILL ALSO GET IN FREE AS WELL.
13. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE JUDGES ABOUT THE STEP SHOW PRIOR
TO OR DURING THE STEP SHOW. THIS WILL RESULT IN THE IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF THE
JUDGE AND DISQUALIFICATION OF YOUR STEP TEAM.
14. ANY STEP TEAM THAT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE RULES AND REGULATIONS MENTIONED
WILL RECEIVE A TEN POINT DEDUCTION IN YOUR SCORE AND/OR DISQUALIFICATION.
