Hendricks Regional Health Creates Beauty Through Sustainable,
Eco-Friendly Enhancements to its Outdoor Spaces
Danville – A $3.5 million landscape project at Hendricks Regional Health Danville is going beyond
creating a more attractive front door to the hospital. A series of innovative, eco-friendly outdoor
improvements have enhanced safety, netted big gains in water and electrical conservation and
fostered sustainability.
New USA-manufactured LED lighting now illuminates various parking areas, fostering an even
safer environment for patients, visitors and employees. Hendricks Regional Health worked with
Eco-Kinetic locally to select specific fixture designs that provide the exact amount of light each
square of the parking lot requires. The result is twice the light output with a more even distribution
of light than the old light fixtures provided. The new fixtures are also highly efficient. “In less than
a year’s time, we are already seeing about a 50 percent reduction in overall lighting consumption
with these lighting circuits,” said Troy Tucker, Hendricks Regional Health Director of Plant
Operations. Additional LED light fixtures will be installed later this summer.
Hendricks Regional Health has also addressed more responsible water usage by installing four
storm water retention planters. Collectively, the planters’ basins can hold 60,000 gallons of runoff
water a day. This water is then used to feed the plants around the campus. In the event a storm drops
more rain than the basins can hold, a pipe directs the overflow to the town of Danville’s storm water
system. This system conserves water and decreases the storm water pressure on the town of
Danville.
Hendricks Regional Health President and CEO Kevin P. Speer said, “We’re excited about what our
landscape and exterior projects mean for the hospital. These new features have transformed the
hospital grounds in an environmentally responsible way that we can all be proud of. It is gratifying
to see patients and members of our community enjoying these wonderful new outdoor spaces we’ve
created.”
