 Badminton was
invented in India
and changed by the
English.
Safety
 Go under the net at
 Be a good

up on the nets.
 Do not hit anything

Service
 The server shall serve from the right service box and
serve to the diagonal box
 The serve shall be underhanded-below the waist
 The receiver in the diagonal box shall be the only
player to receive the serve
 Once the rally starts anyone can contact the birdie
from any where on the court
 Once the serving team scores a point the
server changes service boxes
Faults
A fault always results in a change of
service or a point
 If the birdie….
 Hits the net 2 times in a row on a serve it is a double let
 Lands out of the boundary lines
 Goes under the net or through it
 Fails to pass over the net
 Touches the ceiling or side walls
 Touches another player
 Touches any object outside of the net
 Is caught in the racket
 Is hit 2 times in a row by the same player
Faults con’t
 If the player…
 Uses 2 hands on the racket
 Touches the net
 Invades the opponent’s court
 Deliberately distracts the opponent from
making a play
 Is guilty of flagrant, repeated offenses
 Whiff’s the serve 3 times in a row
Strokes
 Overhand-Hitting the birdie above the head
 Underhand-hitting the birdie below the waist
 Backhand-hitting the birdie on the non-
dominant side of the body
 Forehand-Hitting the birdie on the dominant
side of the body
 Smash-hitting the birdie in a quick downward
motion usually at the net
 Lob-hitting the birdie in an upward arching
motion with the hopes of going over the head
of the opponent
