Optional Community Service Project - Greater Louisville Scholarship

The Gaslight
Princess Program
Community Service Project
Application
Purpose of the Gaslight Princess Community Service Project
The Four Points of the Miss America Crown represent and place emphasis on the following:
Scholarship, Service, Success, and Style.
In 2011, Miss America state and local title holders and contestants all across the country
collectively participated in 12,384 community-service projects, dedicating a total of 571,177
hours and raising millions of dollars for worthy causes.
The purpose of the Gaslight Princess Program is to provide young girls the opportunity to learn
about service and leadership with hopes that they will act as role models for their peers
throughout their community. It also helps to encourage young ladies to consider joining the
Miss America family as a contestant or volunteer in the future.
This optional Community Service Project is designed to encourage the Gaslight Princess to
reach beyond her title and strive to become a “Princess with a Purpose,” making a difference
in people’s lives through charitable and community endeavors.
Princesses entering this optional Community Service competition must demonstrate that they
have fulfilled a legitimate need in their community through the creation, development and/or
participation in a community service project. It could stem from hosting or actual participation
in any event that is meaningful to her family, community, or a selected target population.
Princesses may begin to plan or participate the moment they submit their application to
become a Princess. The project must be completed and turned in by the deadline of Thursday,
October 18th, 2012. The winner will be announced at the Miss Jeffersontown/Louisville Miss &
Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant on Saturday evening, October 20th, 2012.
What can you do? Use your imagination! The event DOES NOT have to be elaborate and
examples include, but are not limited to: Hosting a lemonade stand, cookie sale, or a theme
“party with a purpose” like having friends contribute school supplies for needy students in lieu
of say a Birthday Party for you… The purpose is to benefit a cause that is near and dear to
your heart!
One “Princess with a Purpose” Community Service winner will be awarded a $50 gift card and
our 2012-2013 “Princess with a Purpose” Community Service Trophy. All participants receive
our official community service certificate for her work, signed by the Mayor of Jeffersontown
and our reigning title holders. Show us your servant’s heart! The winner will be determined
by the following criteria: In 150-300 words, clearly state the purpose, show the creativity
(shown in photos), and a description of what it meant to the Princess. Our very qualified &
reigning local title holders will serve as our judges and their decision is final.
DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS THURDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2012!
