Rotation During Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery Without Need of Assistant

PLAINVILLE, Conn. (May 14, 2013) – Innovative Medical Products has introduced a
unique solution for securing a patient’s arm rotation during arthroscopic shoulder surgery
without the need of an assistant to hold the rotation of the arm for an extended period of time
at the desired position. By freeing up an assistant, the De Mayo RoTractor® increases the
surgical team’s efficiency.

vice president. “Where an assistant might have had to hold a patient’s arm in a particular
position during a shoulder surgery, now they’re free, for example, to hold surgical
instruments or arthroscopes, as well as perform other duties.”
Maintaining shoulder distraction, the De Mayo RoTractor® delivers definitive, incremental
amounts of arm rotation by means of a spring-and-notch mechanism that responds as the
patient’s forearm is rotated in either an internal or external orientation. Any of the rotation
positions can be securely locked in place for complete surgeon control of the patient’s
shoulder in the sterile field.
Although the RoTractor® can be adapted to most any lateral positioning pole-system, it can
only be effectively used with IMP’s forearm Phase4 Gel™ Splint to achieve exact rotation
and to completely free up an assistant. The Gel™ Splint’s three positioning holes align
perfectly with the three connecting buttons on the patent-pending De Mayo RoTractor®,
allowing it to rotate and precisely position the patient’s arm in the desired orientation. The
easy-to-apply, non-irritating splint is also designed with a natural wrist contour for increased
comfort while maintaining patient anatomy and improving patient safety.
