CorebreadthandintegrationcoursesforCognitiveNeuroscientists,6-9hours
consistofCognitiveNeurosciencedepthcourses,andtheremainderarederived
fromCognitiveNeuroscience-relateddisciplinespecializationcourses.
ComprehensiveExamination
Inaccordancewiththegraduateschoolrequirements,studentswillberequiredto
takeacomprehensiveexam,whichtheymustpassinordertoadvancetodoctoral
candidacystatus.Successfulcompletion(gradeofB-orbetter)oftheSurveyand
IntegrationofNeuroscienceIandIIcourseswillfulfilltheNeurosciencecomponent
ofthecomprehensiveexam.Inaddition,thestudentmustpassacomprehensive
examintheirareaofspecialization.Theformatofthisspecialtycomprehensive
examwillbedeterminedbythestudent'sadvisorandwillbeappropriateforthe
advisor'sdepartment/programofaffiliation,butmustalsobeinterdisciplinaryin
naturetofulfilltheCognitiveSciencecomponentofthecomprehensiveexam.
Thesis
AllCognitiveNeurosciencePhDstudentswillberequiredtocompleteadoctoral
thesiswithaprimaryCognitiveNeurosciencefocus.Thethesis/dissertationwill
representoriginalstate-of-theartresearchofqualitysuitableforpublicationina
reputablescientificjournal.Thestudent'sthesisadvisormustbeaparticipating
facultymemberoftheCognitiveNeurosciencefaculty.Inaddition,thestudent's
thesiscommitteemustincludeatleast1additionalNeurosciencefacultymember
andoneCognitiveSciencefacultymemberfromoutsidethestudent'sareaof
specialization.InaccordancewiththerequirementsoftheGraduateSchool,the
student'scommitteemustbecomprisedofaminimumof5facultymembersthat
havegraduatefacultyappointments.Thecommitteewillbeformedbythestudent's
advisor,uponapprovaloftheslateofmembersbytheAcademicDirectorsofthe
NeuroscienceandCognitiveSciencecombinedPhDPrograms.
