Annual Development Calendar 2017-2018

ANNUAL DEVELOPMENT
CALENDAR
2017-18
Welcome To Your Annual Development Calendar 2017/18!
Advancing your development is one of the greatest investments both you and Booths can make - and is critical to the success of our business. We
have taken the time to assess what we believe are the greatest needs in 2017/18 and created an Annual Development Calendar that focusses on
those areas that we believe are essential to drive high performance and will contribute to the delivery of the business strategy.
HOW TO BOOK:
Prior to booking yourself or a team member on a course, please ensure that a development discussion has taken place with your line manager to
assess whether the course meets your development needs and also to confirm what other activities are planned that you will complete outside of
the course to ensure you get the best out of the development opportunity.
Once this discussion has taken place, please book yourself on via G:\L&D Generalist\E Winkley\Courses_Material\Annual Development Calendar
2017_2018\Booking Form by selecting your chosen course, date & time. Please confirm your department and the best direct contact telephone
number to reach you. Once you have booked onto your chosen course please make sure that you diarise this in your Outlook calendar.
You will then need to print the joining instructions off – which you can find here on G:\L&D Generalist\E Winkley\Courses_Material\Annual
Development Calendar 2017_2018\Joining Instructions. The joining instructions will detail all the information you need to know regarding start time,
room/location and any pre-work to complete in advance. All courses will be held in a room in Central office, Bluebell Way or Riversway (with the
exception of the Let’s Talk Workshops, which may also be held in some of our Stores).
COURSE REQUIREMENTS – PRE-WORK AND POST COURSE WORK:
To ensure you get the best out of the session, pre-work will be required in most cases. This is to help you prepare well so that you can reflect,
contribute effectively and ultimately get the best out of the session for yourself and your respective delegates. We also strongly suggest you
complete any post course learning and plan in learning objectives for yourself to embed your learning. After all, the real learning takes place when
you practically apply the knowledge, skills and behaviours to real situations!
CANCELLATIONS
In the event that L&D need to cancel a course, delegates will be contacted directly. If delegates need to cancel less than 48 hours before a course,
they will need the permission of a senior manager. For Manufacturing, the Manufacturing Manager and in Logistics your Site Manager.
KEY CONTACTS
Should you have any questions regarding any element of the L&D Calendar 2017/18, please do not hesitate to contact:
Marie Leadbetter – L&D Business Partner (For questions relating to course objectives and suitability of need).
Elizabeth Winkley – L&D Coordinator (For questions relating to reserving a place on a course).

DRIVING YOUR OWN DEVELOPMENT
Following your annual review, you will have agreed objectives for the year
ahead with your line manager. To support you in achieving these
objectives, you may wish to develop a certain skill, gain some additional
knowledge or develop behaviour. This calendar includes a range of
training workshops that may help you with this.
However, development does not always involve attending a course or
workshop but through taking a creative approach to self-directed learning
(For example an activity that will enable a skill / knowledge or behavior to
be transferred from expert to learner) Have a look at the table below
which may give you some ideas!
70:20:10 LEARNING MODEL
The model below illustrates that
whilst attending a course is one
option to learn, this only accounts
for 10% of your learning. Gaining on
the job experience and being
supported through learning
relationships that you have with
others accounts for a massive 90% of
learning!!
If you are unsure about what development activity would help you best,
please contact your L&D Business Partner to discuss further.
4
DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES – IDEAS WORTH SHARING!
Below you will find a few ideas to get you started. These activities complement the more formal workshop learning. Consider what activities you will get

Not Found What You Are Looking For?
Each year in April, we will conduct a training needs analysis to understand and determine what the specific learning needs in each business area
are and determine how and if these learning needs can be met.
Understandably, we have to focus on those activities that will deliver the greatest return for our teams and our business. In the current climate
the focus for 2017/18 is about delivering the basics around people management and mandatory elements that will keep us safe and legal.
Should you have any essential development needs that have not been reflected in the Annual Training Calendar this year or are not covered
via our specialist training approach, please speak to your line manager or LDBP in the first instance.
Any further questions please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the team.
