Welcome to MCC’s Northern Tier Center. I wish all the students, instructors, and staff a wonderful fall semester. My name is Thomas Saelens, the new Site Manager for NTC-Clio. I have almost 20 years helping students at the college level. Feel free to stop by my office if you need anything, have something to share, or just want to say hi. No person is perfect but life is only as beautiful and bright as the care and warmth we show to each other. Each of you will face challenges and I want to urge you to utilize the staff and instructors at MCC as well as your fellow students as a resources. As a college community we are only as strong as the bond we build to help each other. Be generous with your time and others will be generous to you. It is a circle of giving. Some students in college will face difficulties in their personal life or in a course. The key to success is to be aware of your limitations and seek help as soon as possible. Some key things to consider as you begin classes to help you succeed. 1. Make a friend in every class. If you miss a class or need help, you then have a resource. Networking and creating new personal avenues is a skill that can benefit you throughout your life. 2. If you find yourself struggling in class, seek help from the instructor as soon as possible. Instructors want you to be successful. 3. If you need tutoring or want to join a study group, stop by the NTC front desk for information. 4. The college has some amazing resources for students that include: Math Empowerment Zone: Free math help for any student in any math class provided by MCC instructors. (Gorman Center - G-2106 - (810) 762-0178) Writing Center: Any student with any writing assignment can get help by MCC English instructors. They will critique and assist you with your assignment. (Curtice-Mott Building - CM-2031 - (810) 762-229) Learning Center: Provides tutoring and special accommodations for students that qualify. (Prahl College Center - PCC-2280 (810) 762-0399) Student Life: Join one of the twenty active MCC Clubs/Organization or create your own. (Prahl College Center- PCC-124 - (810) 762-0045) 5. If you ever need to drop a class, please seek counseling or assistance to help you finish the class. If you do need to drop, make sure you understand how it will affect your financial aid and balance due to the college. I hope each of you have a rewarding experience at MCC and the Northern Tier Center. Thank you for making MCC a real community college.
