Plant a runner bean seed and observe it’s growth over several weeks. What information should I include when keeping a record of the growth of my runner bean plant? How can I conduct an experiment to find out what plants need to germinate, grow and survive? Keep a diary recording weekly observations about the growth of your runner bean plant (including measurements). Plant cress seeds in 4 different conditions: Light and water Light, no water Water, no light No water, no light Make predictions and record findings. Plants What plants can be found growing in our local environment? Photograph,, identify and record plants found in our school grounds. Sort and classify into groups e.g. trees, flowers, weeds). How do flowers reproduce? Study the life cycle of a sunflower and create a labelled diagram to show the key stages. (seedgermination-shoot-seedling-plantbud-flower-seeds and so on.) Science Learning Journey Year 2 – Summer Term 2015 What are the main stages in the life cycle of a human? Observe how humans grow from baby to toddler to child to teenager to adult. What are the basic survival needs for humans? Discuss what humans need in order to survive? (water, food and air). Humans What do we mean by good hygiene? Create posters to remind children about the importance of good hygiene e.g. hand washing, teeth brushing etc. . Why is exercise important for humans? Identify different types of exercise and observe changes in our body when we exercise? Find out about the importance of exercise for a healthy heart. Why is it important for humans to eat healthily? What do we mean by a balanced diet? Look at plates of food and identify healthy and unhealthy food items. Sort foods into different food groups: meat, dairy, fruit, vegetable, cereal. Plan a balanced meal containing foods from each of the main food group.
