Introduction
The TEJ Plus software is an integrated client application that connects automatically to
the TEJ server to access all TEJ databases
The main screen is composed of three main areas:
The top portion is the toolbar area containing the:
- menu bar with all functions (this changes according to selected function)
- shortcut toolbar (changes according to selected function)
- country selection toolbar

The main window contains reference material to assist the user in identifying account
definitions, accounting and reporting standards by country, etc.
Overview
The greatest strength of the TEJ Plus software is in conducting thorough bottom-up
financial analysis. The user will be very pleased with the depth of data for each
company: hundreds of accounts in each financial statement and well as country-specific
supporting data like monthly sales data, shareholder information, corporate actions, etc.
To further aid analysis, TEJ Plus offers macroeconomic data, commodity prices, stock
priced data, as well as a variety of financial market information in certain countries (such
as fund NAV, bond, rights and warrants data, etc.).

Stock Filter
This function allows users to quickly screen through a given universe to identify those
companies meeting their criteria. To screen through a specific subset of companies, users
can use the <Select ID> button in upper right corner; otherwise the function will default
to the entire universe of companies listed in the selected country.
In the example below, only those companies with a monthly trading volume of 15 billion
and among the top 30 stocks by market capitalization will be shown.

Multi Topic Query
This function allows users to screen using a number of different fields from the
companies’ accounts; it is not limited to the main fields used in <Stock Filter>.
Users must first select the company universe, then click on the <Select Field_Date> tab
to choose the desired fields and time periods they wish to view.

Financial Analysis (Taiwan only)
This function offers powerful analytical tools to users on quarterly and annual periods.
Numerous financial ratios – both official ratios provided by local exchanges and ratios
calculated by TEJ – are offered in certain countries according to their relevance and
common usage.

In this view, users can access country-specific data for screening companies. For
example, in Taiwan, the database includes monthly sales figures.

Company Database
The corporate record varies from country to
country according to available data. In addition to
corporate data per se, this dataset also contains the
macroeconomic datasets including commodities, as
well as major shareholder records, officers and
directors filings, dividends, corporate actions, and
other company-level data.
For more details on each country’s required
reporting, users should review the main window for
country-specific background information.

Finance Database
The Finance Database is the most
commonly used dataset in TEJ Plus.
This dataset holds up to 500 + financial
accounts for each company; extracted
from the balance sheet, income statement,
cash flow statement, as well as the notes
to the financial statements.
Financial results are available in both
quarter-by-quarter format (Qly) as well as
in cumulative YTD format (Acc).
Depending on the country standard, there
are a number of different accounting
formats – General, Banking, Financial,
Insurance, etc. – and accounting standards
– local accounting (such as PRC in China)
vs. International Accounting Standards
(IAS).
Finally, some countries require
consolidation of subsidiaries in the
reporting of results while others do not or
may allow reporting of both “mother”
results and consolidated results.

Financial Statement Views
The default view of financial statements is with the accounts in each column and dates in
each row, from the most recent to the oldest record in the selected date range.
As with most screens, data can be transposed between rows and columns using the
icon in the toolbar:
Alternately, the
shortcut key can be used to select which of the three fields to use
as the query key – company, data field, or date. Thus, by setting the data field as the
query key, the above screen can be transposed to a comparative time series:

As in most views, the date chronology can be reversed (most
recent statements last instead of first) through the Settings / Set
Date Compare function in the menu bar.
This function is also another method of changing the date range
in addition to the toolbar shortcut.
To view the range of dates for which data is available, click on the
the toolbar.

Equity Database
The Equity Database provides price data
on listed stocks. While the Taiwan
database contains extensive data on
required reporting datasets such as dealer
trades, the majority of exchanges only
provide stock price data.
This dataset is further subdivided into
adjusted and unadjusted series of various
frequencies.
The adjusted figures may reflect corporate
actions only (such as splits, rights, new
issues, etc.) or corporate actions and
dividends; according to local practice in
return valuations.

Delisted Database
Three countries (Taiwan, China, and Hong
Kong) contain datasets on defunct (delisted)
companies.
This historic record allows users to review
records and eliminate the survivor bias in
historic and regression analysis.
The dataset includes most of the subsets of the
active companies including financials,
holdings, stock data, corporate actions, etc.

Quick Graph
The fastest and easiest way to create a graph is to use the
(Quick Graph) shortcut on
the toolbar. This toggles the Graph window open and closed. By default, the Graph
window will open below the Grid window.
To display only the Graph window, the
window open and closed.
shortcut on the toolbar toggles the Grid
To select the data to be graphed, drag the column or row heading to the chart area.
Subsequent items can be added by dragging them to the chart as well.
To manipulate the graph, use the Graph/Chart toolbar:

Charts
A more powerful and versatile graphing feature is the Chart Window which can be
accessed under the <Setting> menu.
Chart Options
First choose “Graph Settings…” in the <Setting> menu to
choose the companies and data items you wish to chart. This
allows you to select the company and data you wish to chart
whereas the date range is selected in the Date toolbar.
Next, select single or multiple charts
in the Chart window.

The color and type of chart can be modified by selecting the company/chart in the lower
right pane, and changing the defaults in the Chart toolbar.
