Ideas for supporting new to English parents to deliver the Covenant (eg encouraging parents into school settings and language classes) Community homework clubs, sponsored by MATs / business We need an award winning leadership & development programme What will improve secondary education – ask young people Celebrity endorsements of schools/education in Bradford District success award scheme for pupils – introduce competitiveness Support service for health and well-being of teachers Initiatives need to be better co-ordinated and run for longer to embed them especially for hard to reach parents Volunteer Reading Scheme needs reviving Book clubs for parents in primary schools Voluntary sector could be supporting community engagement, using school buildings for VCS engagement, responding flexibly to meet ‘school’ needs We can promote the Covenant through Twitter/Facebook, a glossy brochure, on Bradford Schools Online Discussion on access to Bradford Schools Online Consideration whether a VCS champion attached to each school and on every BAC (behaviour and attendance collaborative) Share positive stories and impact of VCS work Improved pupil voice in schools – raising the issue and sharing best practice Cllr Khan has extended the offer for young people to meet with him directly – the Council’s Commissioner will make arrangements for this to happen. Cllr Khan and Cllr Dunbar have said that they welcome invitations from young people’s groups and they would happily meet and visit young people in their provisions. The Council Commissioner will ensure youth workers in attendance are given contact details for the 2 Councillors so invitations can be extended. Who will follow up?
