5. Printing & Converting recommendations:



Suitable for all printing methods i.e. letterpress, lithography, sheet feed and web offset, flexography,
screen printing and thermography. Compatible with laser and ink-jet printing as well as reprography,
digital and litholaser printing.
It performs excellently with all converting techniques like embossing, die-cutting, punching, creasing, film
lamination, pasting, cutting and slitting, perforating. It is also suitable for optical reading, magnetic inks
and thermal transfer printing as well as hot melt and adhesive coating.
Recommendations for offset printing: The general recommendations for printing Acid Free, pH neutral
papers should be followed, i.e. use:
- Damping solutions: with neutral pH (not lower than 5) and conductivity within normal values
(2000/2300 uS/cm at 18’C ). Too acid pH may alter the surface of the paper as well as
reduce the catalysing power of the driers. Up to 15% isopropyl alcohol should also be used
with traditional damping systems.
- Offset inks: with natural uncoated papers ink setting time is usually longer. To avoid set off,
smearing of impression cylinders, etc. the use of oxidising inks without anti-skinning agents
is recommended as is drying in mini-piles.
6. Additional information on Post Consumer Waste
There are many definitions for recycled and not always is clear what does it embrace. Recycled paper intended in
traditional way can have post consumer waste and/or pre consumer waste.
Post consumer waste - this term identifies fibres derived from the de-inking process of the paper that has been
printed and already used by end consumer.
Pre consumer waste - intends fibre deriving from the paper recycled at the mill level or, in any case, before it was
printed and/or used by end consumer.

7. Additional information on FSC
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, non-profit, non-government organisation that provides
standard setting, trademark assurance and accreditation services for companies and organisations interested in
responsible forestry.
FSC's mission is to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management
of the world's forests.
- Environmentally appropriate forest management ensures that the harvest of timber and nontimber products maintains the forest's biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes.
Socially beneficial forest management helps both local people and society at large to enjoy long
term benefits and also provides strong incentives to local people to sustain the forest resources
and adhere to long-term management plans.
Economically viable forest management means that forest operations are structured and
managed so as to be sufficiently profitable, without generating financial profit at the expense of
the forest resources, the ecosystem or affected communities. The tension between the need to
generate adequate financial returns and the principles of responsible forest operations can be
reduced through efforts to market forest products for their best value.
The distinctive FSC trademark - the check and tree symbol - as well as the letters FSC and words 'Forest
Stewardship Council' enable customers to recognize responsible forestry products in stores around the world.
Over the past 10 years, 48 million hectares in more than 60 countries have been certified according to FSC
standards while several thousand products are produced using FSC certified wood and carrying the FSC
trademark. FSC operates through its network of National Initiatives in more than 34 countries.
Benefits
Through FSC certification, forest owners, managers, companies, towns and communities who carry out
responsible forest management can obtain various benefits, including:
 International recognition that the forest management does not put the forest´s natural heritage at risk
and that the management activities efforts are appropriate.
 The opportunity to find new markets for FSC labeled products, thus acquiring market recognition for
responsible forest management.
 The opportunity for interaction and cooperation among the various players involved in responsible
forest management - forest owners, social and environmental organizations - to solve the problems
that forests face.
 The assurance for future generations that they will enjoy the benefits of the forest.
 The assurance that forest management practices are responsible and will be further improved.
 The assurance that ownership rights are respected.
 The assurance that wood harvesting is legal.
 The assurance that the rights of workers and indigenous communities are respected.
 The assurance that areas of natural wealth and endangered wildlife habitat are not being negatively
affected.
 The opportunity to use the FSC trademark on products to demonstrate that they come from legal and
well managed sources.
 The possibility of new markets for products produced as FSC.
 The possibility of benefiting from local, national or international government support for responsible
forest management.
NB Favini FSC certification for all three mills (Rossano Veneto, Meerssen and Apledoorn) can be found in
Marketing tool kit.

8. Additional information on Chain of Custody (COC) Certificate
Chain of custody certification provides a guarantee about the production of FSC-certified products. Chain-ofcustody is the path taken by raw materials from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of
processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution.
From a customer perspective, the FSC label represents a promise that is being made to them. Chain of custody
standards are the mechanism FSC has to ensure that 'promise' is delivered. Operations that have been
independently verified for FSC chain of custody certification are eligible to label their products with the FSC logo.
9. Additional information on Renewable energy (100% Green Energy)
The logo of 100% Green energy guarantees that the product has been produced with the electricity generated by
renewable sources. The electricity from renewable sources, more commonly indicated as green energy, derives
from the following sources:

wind power (in-shore and off-shore)

photovoltaic (energy derived from sunlight)

solar thermal (converts sunlight into heat)

geothermal (energy derived from the heat in the interior of the earth)

hydro-electric (flowing water and basin)

sea tide and waves

bio gasses
